Seems like we are starting to have these convos in various threads and obviously for the next few months, many things are likely to change.
I added my impression of their attributes but otherwise took info from 2021 roster and added a year.
As of right now:
NEW ARRIVALS: (help here is appreciated) Denver Anglin - 6’2”, 180(?) - dead eye shooter. Seems quick, heard he is a great defender and takes pride in it. Sorely needed. More of a SG than PG? Saw other posts that he was a true PG for his team but also a microwave scorer?
D’ante Bass - 6’7”, 210(?) - high flying athlete with some great dunks. Not sure beyond that other than that he is a lefty. Likely a good rebounder?
POTENTIAL RETURNING PLAYERS:
Aminu Mohammed - 6’5”, 210 - So. - Declared for Draft with option to return - can do everything
Dante Harris - 6’0”, 170 - Jr. - high energy, very quick, tenacious on ball guard defender. Poor shooting but maybe…?
Chuma Azinge - 6’3”, 183 - Sr. - limited offensively but a pretty strong defender? Need help here as I don’t know. Reliable and expected contributions - won’t try to do too much.
Jordan Riley - 6’4”, 195 - So. - tons of potential IMO, incredible athlete and bit of a slasher. Not sure about shooting. I think similar to Aminu but I may be wrong.
Ryan Mutombo - 7’2”, 252 - So. - good offensive skillset but gets bullied a bit defensively. Another year and some weights should make a big difference.
Collin Holloway - 6’6”, 220 - Jr. - had some strong offensive games, not an explosive athlete but crafty. Good bball IQ? Acceptable defensively?
Kobe Clark - 6’6”, 180 - Jr. - a bit of a question mark as has even very little time due to injury. Help here appreciated.
Wayne Bristol Jr. - 6’6”, 205 - Sr/ Jr. (extra eligibility?) - no idea but I think others were pretty high on him? Strong shooting? Help here appreciated.
Malcolm Wilson - 7’0”, 205 - Sr. - I was impressed a few times. Honestly thought he did well a few games but can’t characterize him as a player. Help here appreciated.
Victor Muresan - 6’10”, 190 - Jr. - I’m not sure - hep here would be appreciated.
Position Depth: 1: Harris, Anglin, Azinge 2: Mohammed, Bristol Jr., Riley, 3: Mohammed, Holloway, Bass, Clark 4: Holloway, Bass, Muresan 5: Motumbo, Wilson

Besides reputation as a shooter, I remember someone quoting Holloway as saying he was the team's best defender, as soon as he started practicing with GU.

He was the 2019-20 MEAC Rookie of the Year at Howard. He shot 40% ftom 3 his frosh year. (RJ Cole was also MEAC ROY before transferring to UConn after his sophomore year). IIRC, Bristol missed 2020-21 season due to injury and may have 3 years eligibility left but is unclear as he joined the Hoyas mid-season.

Ah that makes sense - you are right, I just took what was online for the GU 2021-22 roster which lists him as a junior…. Odd / classic Georgetown

Bristol should have at least 3 years of eligibility left (not sure how the COVID extra year would count for him). However, next year will be his fourth year in college, so I wouldn't be surprised if Georgetown lists him next year as a senior regardless of eligibility since they seem to not list players based on eligibility.

That's true. A Senior with multiple years of eligibility left. Just need to divorce class year as a marker of remaining eligibility with the new covid and transfer rules in place.

Maybe a strange thought, but could Donald Carey return using the Covid year? Any chance he would? I remember there was some uncertainty about how many years he had left when he transferred. Not a world beater, but great shooter and progressed a lot this year to be a solid contributor and generally strong effort.

The hope has to be that the roster would look something like this:
Harris / Anglin Murray (Lsu) / Riley Mohammed / Bristol PF Transfer / Holloway / Bass Reid (Lsu) / Mutombo

Position Depth: 1: Harris, Anglin, Azinge 2: Mohammed, Bristol Jr., Riley, 3: Mohammed, Holloway, Bass, Clark, Muresan 4: Holloway, Bass, Muresan 5: Motumbo, Wilson Looking at this depth chart, if Mohammed returns, the 2 & 3 positions look to be fine. 1 could use an upgrade in shooting -- whether that's Dante discovering a shot or someone coming in, don't think it really matters, but better shooting in that position seems to be imperative. The 4 & 5 stand out big time as areas in need of a transfer portal upgrade -- especially the 4.

I'm more curious with the 2 open spots you have (there are only 11 in your depth chart), what positions you think would be preferable for transfers? Or just best available player that will take our offer regardless of position?

But also, there simply isn't room in a rotation for more than 8 or 9 guys. So who will fill out the 12th and 13th spots isn't likely to matter all that much unless it's a big time recruit or transfer that would move someone else down the pecking order. IF and that's still a big IF, we are able to nab Murray and Reid then I would hope every resource available would go toward a veteran 4 man. Would be the one obvious hole.

I would guess if they fill the 3 spots currently available with Murray, Reid and some PF next up would be a veteran PG. You know what you have with Harris but with Denver being a Frosh and known to be a sharp shooter I would grab a Terrell Allen type PG.

Nobody unlisted above will be a meaningful contributor in my opinion. However, Anglin absolutely isn't a PG.

Anglin looks more like a combo guard than pure point - and maybe best suited as (an undersized) shooting guard - if you're serious about improving the team's prospects moving forward, it would behoove the staff to recruit a (taller) lead guard w/ a consistent and reliable jumper (when needed) who possesses excellent court vision and a pass first mentality by default.

I don't disagree, but that's a pretty complete package. Can we really expect someone that talented to come in when there's an existing PG who plays a lot of minutes in place? I think our best shot is at a somebody who has the pedigree and played good competition, but is a bit of a reclamation project, like Curbelo from Illinois or even Hayes from NCState. Nobody will be perfect, but agree that we absolutely need somebody who can play.

I am hopeful that Anglin can help at the PG position as he develops as a player and might be able to provide some minutes at that spot in his second or third year. I think the last two years showed what can happen when you expect freshman to play meaningful minutes right away. Two years ago Dante had a lot of games where he really struggled, but he was the only real option so he played a ton of minutes. No doubt he had a really impressive Big East tournament but he struggled for parts of his freshman year. Dante also did not develop and improve as much as everyone had hoped in his second year and it seemed like the staff was not confident that Tyler could supplement his minutes to any significant degree. I think playing so many minutes last year hurt Dante effectiveness and throwing Tyler into the fire before he was ready, did not work for the player or the program. Hopefully Dante is better in the upcoming year but having a freshman as the only option to back him up is not a good idea. They need to find an experienced PG in the transfer portal who is ready to come in a capably perform for around 15 minutes a game. If Denver turns out to be the third string PG for limited minutes that is fine, but let him play to his strengths, shooting, for most of his first year.

I'm just wondering if you are basing that on having watched more than the 4 of his senior year HS games I saw. He looked like a point guard to me in those 4 games, but I'm willing to defer if your sample size of games intently watched is significantly larger than mine. OTOH, if your opinion is based on seeing fewer of his actual games....

From what I've seen Anglin is an undersized combo guard who started to play more point guard as he got older because it was likely where he needed to play in college. Think a better shooting T. Beard. When Anglin committed he said that Ewing recruited him as a PG.

Officially it's:
Harris/Anglin Murray/Bristol Riley Holloway/Bass Mutombo/Wilson
Let's just say it's:
Anglin Murray/Bristol Riley Holloway/Bass Mutombo
All I want to add at this point is: Jahmir Young, Tyrell Ward, Alex Fudge, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, Manny Bates, and a backup PG. Is that really too much to ask?
