Ronny Thompson: The Man Behind the CurtainI feel like this article is worth its own thread so it doesn't get buried in the various other threads on the board. I am sure Aidan put in a lot of work to obtain this information and he will likely be getting some pushback for publishing this and he can use our support. We can talk about Ewing all that we want but this seems to be the bigger problem plaguing the program at this point. It is no longer the 1980's and the program needs to change to keep up with the times. This is no way should be construed as disrespect to what first JT2 and then JT3 accomplished. The program can change to adapt to the times while still respecting and honoring the past. However, there is no reason a legacy family member should be in a position to influence the program. It is time for the administration (i.e. Jack DeGioia) to make the decision as to which is more important. The Thompson's or the program as a whole.

This is exactly why it is important for this to remain a topic of conversation. I saw this earlier and his article has clearly upset the University/Basketball Department. We must keep the pressure on the University if true change is to occur.

Poorly written article... Heck, I couldn't even get halfway through it. That's probably why they would allow questions from him... Just my opinion...

So writing the article poorly is why they "would" allow questions from him? It often seems like people who criticize the writing of others make their own fair share of mistakes. It was an easy read and carried extremely important information.......just my opinion.

Didn’t the article basically force the Admin’s hand in finally acknowledging that Ronnie is an employee? That would seem to be beneficial to open inquiry in much the same way as refusing to acknowledge it is detrimental. So now the school has a hissy fit and won’t acknowledge the author. That’s nice.

At least someone is brave enough to bring the topic up. This program has too many yes-men both internally and externally in the people that cover it. The school is actively hiding an employee with the second most authority on the team with zero recognition of their existence - its astoundingly bad and a spit in the face to all their fans.

Next article should be about what does DOBO Howze actually do and was he hired by RT without an actual transparent application and hiring process?

I read the article. I thought it was a pretty fair, evenhanded take and provided an interesting look into the operations of the program. It acknowledged Ron Thompson is involved in the program but wasn’t universally negative, either. What I thought was most interesting is that a lot of the staffers seem to acknowledge there needs to be a comprehensive change in approach, however that ultimately looks. There seems to be an acknowledgement that we are doing things in a way that looks backward, not forward. It also was disappointing that we may have lost one of our better hires due to this sort of power struggle. All in all, none of this is surprising, and I credit the article for giving some insights into the nature of the program.

Author (Aidan Curran) an alumnus and also covered sports for The Hoya during his time @ the Hilltop, I believe. Definitely less than magnanimous behavior/conduct exhibited as a reaction to article.

We've known this for years and years and years, at least in respect to how the program deals with the media and fans - it's kind of amazing that someone on staff is saying this.

It might be because you're a trouble maker? Duh. How is writing about the structure of the Basketball Program being a "trouble maker?" It is only causing trouble if there is something inherently wrong with the structure or something they are trying to hide.
