29 minutes for Kaiden Rice tonight. 2 points (0-8 from the field), 1 rebound, 0 assists. His 29 minutes might be the most puzzling stat of the night. How can he get so much run when he provides nothing if he’s not hitting his 3s? Patrick was waiting for him to hit threes.
The stat line is very telling.

I won't mind not having to watch Rice fire up ridiculous 27+ foot shots. I guess we need his height defensively with this super small lineup. But given the fact that he clearly is way off on his shot tonight- I would rather see Billingsly or even Kobe on the court down the stretch tonight. Just the fact that we have to give a player like Rice serious minutes is a clear indicator of how bad this team is. There is not another major conference program that would be playing a player as limited as Rice more than a few minutes a game, if at all. Same thing for Ighoefe and Wilson. Probably even Holloway, although he does have some value within a limited bench role. Ewing is a bad coach, but we should not kid ourselves - the talent level on this team is very poor. The guy I feel bad for is Carey. On a good team, he would be a super valuable player. He improved significantly this year. His shooting and basic basketball IQ would make him a very valuable supporting player on a good team. Mohammed can grow into a winning player - the talent and motor are there, he just needs to make better decisions much more consistently. Some of the young guys might grow into winning players, but they haven't shown much potential yet. It is tough to compete in the big east with only a couple of guys who have the combination of talent and basketball IQ to play winning basketball. Kudos to Donald Carey!

Did you realize that Pat called two timeouts at the 1:03 mark left in the game. He first called a 30 second timeout and then called a full timeout without the team going back on the floor. Who does that? Somebody who has no idea what he’s doing. He then used that time to draw up a play having 5’10” Dante Harris driving to the basket. You can’t make this stuff up… I went back and watched it again to confirm it. I can't believe it. So pathetic

Holding a team without a FG for the last 8 minutes and forcing 19 turnovers and still losing by 11 is something only a Patrick Ewing team could pull off. Hats off to them. You can find a way to put a negative spin on anything. Holding a team without a FG for the last 8 minutes and, overall, forcing 19 turnovers should be celebrated. Celebrate all you want but it’s another loss in a non competitive game.

Sad because I think the staff did try to make some adjustments in the last 48 hours, but didn't go full throttle with them and when you half-ass the adjustments, you get half the results.
Liked going to Wilson early and he rewarded us with some pretty decent minutes. Thought our defensive effort was actually pretty solid the first 12 minutes or so, much better than the last game. Nembhard hurt us early from deep, but I'd still rather make him beat us than giving Kalkbrenner unlimited dunks and Hawkins open looks. However, our MO is that once our shots stop falling, our defensive intensity and concentration drops. Happens every game, tonight was no different. A halfway decent team doesn't let it get to down 17 at half, keeps it to around 10 and lives to fight a 2nd half. A bad one doesn't.
Creighton had a lot of trouble with the press, much more than Saturday. (Hint hint: broken record) With how much foul trouble Creighton was in and how shorthanded they were, it should have been used more. Just don't understand the unwillingness to at least try to keep it up at the risk of red-lining some guys. Liked giving Kobe run just to get another decently mobile guy with some size on the floor; they need to do that more moving forward just to spell guys in keeping up a press.
Overall, I think the officiating in a lot of instances this year has been in our favor; probably moreso than anytime since I became a fan 20+ years ago. Really don't understand what Ewing was complaining that warranted drawing a T there, especially when the game wasn't entirely out of reach at that point. Also don't understand having your back to the play and tripping an opposing player to get another T. Probably didn't change the outcome, but goes without saying that this team just isn't good enough to have its HC punt 3 points in a 2 possession game late.
Of Dante's 9-24 FG today, would be very interested to see his 2pt breakdown at the rim vs. long 2s. Have to get the long 2s, especially those no-pass, 15+ left on the shot clock, long 2s out of his system at all costs. No one here is surprised by this being a problem since Day 1, but the staff's continued acceptance of this and inability to correct are unacceptable.
Rice was also a shot selection culprit tonight. Was definitely cold, but also made several way harder than they needed to be. Get up to the line and stop trying to Curry every 3. And he's definitely lucky this game never got to a point where picking up his gum(?) on defense while allowing a backdoor cut cost us. That play and Ewing tripping O'Connell are just 2 of the more WTF type moments in this WTF season.
The announcers can blame height all they want, but improper box outs caused 2 offensive rebounds off missed FTs in crunch time. Just can't happen and that's a discipline and fundamentals issue. Improper closeouts on 3pt shooters causes us to cede at least 6 FTs. Also discipline/fundamentals. Again, these are on coaching. And it's infuriating that these mistakes are not corrected time and time again.

Patrick Ewing your team is still fighting. Thank you for the Georgetown brand you established. Another close double-digit loss…

We actually played a decent second half, but our big slump today happened in the first half. It was just too big a deficit to make up. We continue to struggle to do even small things right on defense. A Creighton team that was struggling to score managed to score easily on us over two games. Our offense played decently well in this game, but we lacked consistency.
On to the next one.

We shot 38% from the field and 16% from three. We had six assists and eight turnovers. Sorry to be a downer but let’s face facts.

Keep in mind the Creighton team we just lost handily to twice was missing its most athletic frontcourt player - Arthur Kaluma- who plays 25 minutes/game. Good thing we were able to directly help them unearth/unleash their second most athletic frontcourt player in Feazell the last 48 hours.

That was a tremendous effort by the Hoyas tonight. A statement. On the road, haven't won since the Harding Administration, down a ton at half. Just kept coming and coming. You have to love that!!

We’ve gotten to the point where being down 20 and losing by 10 is a victory. It’s not! We play to win games. You don’t build the TAC, play in CapOne and pay your coach $3.5 million to go through the motions.

Kaiden has been the same player for 4 straight years, he isnt going to change now. no rebounds or assists is who he is a lot. One has to worry though Dante is that player too - will he also be the player who takes 17 foot jumpers with 15 seconds in the shot clock for his career? insanity is repeating the same thing over again and expecting different results.

This is a huge stretch miracles. Was it GTown effort or Creighton coasting. It's hard to maintain intensity when you have no fear of losing the game.

a quick look shows that during the 14 game losing streak, the team has shot 40% or better 4 times in those 14 games. the team fg% for the season is 40.7%

We have selected few people that come on thread just to see coach Ewing and the team fail. There’s no words of encouragement. The team is struggling it’s a bad season. It happens in life when things are not going well. Yes, I understand everyone has the right to express their opinion and we are sport fans. The coach is to be held accountable. But come on guys this team is young, inexperienced and not very good right now.
