Playing Billingsley over Mutombo late (even if he needed a quick blow) is just inexcusable.
And once again not finding a couple minutes of rest in the 2nd half for Harris. Carey and Aminu. bit us in the ass down the stretch with fatigue leading to mental lapses and lazy execution.
We can criticize the talent til the cows come home - but the guys were in a position to get in the Big East W column tonight and the staff did them absolutely no favors in putting them in position to win.

Last question of the night. How do the kids stay inspired by this coaching staff? For instance, Ryan has a great stretch of minutes tonight. Blocked shots, rebounds. Then he makes a bad pass and a mistake and he is back on the bench. This is one of many decisions that clearly came from the top and suggests that new assistants aren’t going to change anything.

Rice is the worst kind of player - he gets hot once a month and tricks a coach into thinking he is playable. then he costs you any shot at a close game by firing up contested threes the instant the ball touches his hands, repeatedly. And of course plays horrific defense most of the time. although to his credit, his D has been better in recent games. Still awful, but better. Rice belongs nowhere near the court for a major conference team, yet he plays crunch time for us. I think Rice is the Georgetown player I will be most happy to see complete their eligibility. Watching him play is such a deeply unpleasant experience. Objectively, he was one of our best players tonight…..

The last thing I want to do is defend a Ewing move: but I believe he put in Billingsly- as he usually does- when he presses. Whether that was a good decision at the time is debatable. Going zone which effectively got SH hot from 3 doesn't look great in retrospect either.

I am not sure what’s worse. The lineups at the end or allowing Dante to take 17 shots while Carey only gets 9. We have an elite college shooter and we can’t figure out how to get him shots.

I missed the game tonight. I was hoping my absence might bring good luck. It didn’t. Oh well — on to the next game.

Poorly coached teams tend to get the details wrong. I wonder if Ewing knows this?

Good games from Carey and Mutombo. Rice , Aminu and Dante had their moments . We still leave three point shooters way too open. This was a game we should’ve stolen.

At this point other than getting a win for the kids’ morale, I find myself indifferent of the results. I’d like to avoid the embarrassment of a winless season, but beyond that what’s the difference if we get 1 win or 2? We know this is the final stretch of games, and as someone who’s wanted a change, in some ways this year will be worth it if we get a year regime in here next year rather than 2 years down the road.

Very critical postgame remarks of Billingsley’s job covering Richmond at the end. “We can’t do that high school stuff. We’ve got to man up.”
Nothing about maybe he shouldn’t have been in the game over the most effective player of the night. No blame or accountability again for the coaching staff that is presiding over the worst season in 50+ years, but plenty for a Freshman who wasn’t a top 200 recruit.

Na I'm done I am so angry after reading his remarks about Billingsley, someone who has been played sparingly not being able to guard an experienced solid player in crunch time when it was his decision to put him, a freshman, on the floor and with no defensive plan! Especially after Ryan was doing as good as job as anyone. A toddler knows how to take more responsibility than this guy, I'm done, I'd use swear words but I don't want to get banned Edit: If I were billingsley and I heard what he had just said, I would fully curse him out like I don't care how good of a player he was or whatever his ego is or even if I get frozen out of the team for it someone just needs to snap at this guy

It’s hard to let this one go as the kids did so many things right and then revert to bad habits. 5 minutes of ball movement followed by my turn basketball. More ball movement and then lapses of focus and careless passes, dribbling too much, and failure to box out. Just further evidence that this team is poorly constructed with one reliable shooter, one streak shooter, and a bunch of poor shooters and no banger who can get the rebound in traffic. The inability to rebound this year is killing this team. Start and play Ryan and let him learn and grow. Holloway over Rice is a tossup. Both can get hot, but frankly neither should be starting. Good Dante, bad Dante, which was actually an improvement over recent games. Who knows what Tre King would have meant to this team. Or J Riley by this point in the season. However poor shooting, poor rebounding and poor defense is a hell of a combination and not something those other players would have helped to overcome.

Tired of piling on certain guys, but it was clear Mutombo was the most effective big by a wide margin on both ends tonight. You just hope the staff's decision to limit him to 22 minutes vs. 26-28 minutes didn't cost us the game, but with how the other 24 minutes by Tim/JBill went, you also can't help but think it did.
Comedy of errors by both teams tonight. Poor shot selection, questionable decision-making and poor execution all around. Seems like Obiagu has made a career out of the Hoyas just forcing shots into his outstretched hands. In the end, the difference was pretty predictable: second chance points. Staff can yell "rebound" until the cows come home, but until you teach the kids how to box out it's not going to matter.
With Aiken out, seemed like a good time to pressure Richmond (not a good ball handler at all) and Harris into some turnovers. Didn't really try until down 5 in the final 60 seconds. Missed opportunity again there, but the coach is now on record saying he doesn't want to try to use his best defensive asset to win games unless it's too late. Hard to expect anything different tonight.
Getting increasingly hard to see when this "little skid" will mercifully come to an end.
