From here on out you will be known as the Mike Milbury of HoyaTalk. This is what I was driving at with my 'respect' post. Cannot agree more with hoyajmw. Be careful now, Mr. Milbury is a former neighbor and, despite his polarizing media personality, is a good guy. Off topic: NHL hockey broadcasts and studio shows are the poorer for his absence. There is nothing more boring than former hockey players doing vanilla commentary on those broadcasts. I disagree with none of what you said. However, my reference was to the show incident in the stands. That was in fact Mike Milbury.

Unfortunately that is the sum total of how he is portrayed by most these days and it was constantly used to taunt his kids in school (my kid personally witnessed it). I make no apologies for him "ruining the Islanders."

Ewing is going down with the Dante Harris ship. As I said earlier in this thread, Tyler hasn't played well lately, but Ewing killed his confidence by letting Harris do whatever he wants on the court and pulling Tyler when he makes a mistake. Among Ewing's many flaws as a coach, his stubborn determination to make Dante Harris into something he's not is going to be a big part of costing him his job. Tyler and his family can't be blamed for being frustrated. Agreed he's riding or dying with Dante. Not sure Beard is the answer but at this juncture even having Aminu at point would be more effective than Dante. (plus that would make for a big lineup which has it's advantages). Aminu at PG is a horrible decision. Aminu would be a even bigger ball stopper than Dante. I would go with Don if we are taking the ball out of Dante's hands.

I'm having a horrible year in college hoops. As you can see with my monitor I am a Cal grad and have had two granddaughters school at Georgetown. Having played BB myself until the body gave out, I have fallen for the Hoyas and feel more pain here than in Berkeley. In neither place are things what anyone would consider good. Bad records, bad teams, and uncertain futures. But the thought I must bring to the table is that Coach Fox at Cal (Nevada, Georgia, etc.) is not real popular like Ewing with many posters. But he has taken a bunch of players (no 5*s and I'm sure no 4*s) and has them playing way above their individual heads. They played #15 U$C even until near the end. Now, I do not mean to imply that those two teams are even close to even, but there is coaching and there are players that are buying in and playing above their ability levels and as a team. Yes, they are still getting whooped, and recruiting there is really not much to bring a lot of hope. But watching the Bears can give some hope from the brand of ball they play; watching the Hoyas is holding on with your fingernails. I have never seen so many TOs as I have being a Hoya fan in the last 7 years. And yet, Georgetown is more fun, more exciting as a fan, but lately pretty disappointing. Read between the lines, but as much as I dearly wanted PE to succeed, he is NOT getting the job done.

This was a winnable game and I do think our guys stayed in it to the end (unlike some other games), but we couldn't get over the hump. Given that almost every other game on our schedule will be tough (perhaps with the exception of DePaul at home), it is a real lost opportunity.
In short, both teams stunk in this game. Butler is a slow, unathletic team (much less athletic than us) with a really awful offense (Butler is ranked 240 in offense). Because of that, Georgetown's defense looks better on paper than it was, but both teams really struggled on the offensive end. Georgetown scored .77 points per possesion, and Butler 0.81. That's just really bad for both.
Donald Carey was our only player who was above 100 offensive efficiency for the game. Holloway had a pretty bad game (57 O rating), Harris struggled mightily (59 O rating, including 4 turnovers), Rice was his usual "chuck it up as soon as I touch it" (42 O rating). Ighoefe and Billingsley struggled too, though perhaps not as bad as the other guys. Mutombo actually did okay in his limited minutes. Beard was largely a non-entity in his 8 minutes.
Harris has had a tough year, as some have said. In conference play, his O rating is 86.3 compared to 88.0 last year (neither is good). His turnover rate is actually better than last year, but it's not enough. His three point percentage (27.1%) and two point percentage (41.5%) are close to last year's numbers. His Big East assist rate is actually a bit lower than last year, too.
While I understand Beard hasn't had nearly the opportunity as Harris, he hasn't played particularly well either in the time he's had. His O rating is worse than Harris', his turnover rate is ridiculously high (31.5), he doesn't shoot threes any better than Harris, and he shoots twos only a bit better than Harris.
Given how horrible we are overall, I could see giving Beard some run anyway, but the fact is neither of these guys are getting it done this season and one of them needs to play at all times, essentially.

The press did get us in position to win, unfortunately we squandered a lot of offensive opportunities to close the deal. Dante more than makes up for his lack of height and length in the press with his quicks. This was a complete team loss. No single coach or player deserves more blame than anyone else. Things did not click when they could have. Keep the faith, and maybe show some respect for the fellas. It's not hard Uh, no, Dante does not make up for his many flaws with his quicks in the press. It’s more that Dante is actually a plus player when we are pressing, but he’s a total minus player in every other set (including all of our base defenses). He is killing us at present, more than anyone else (second is Aminu with his put it on the floor and go hero ball). You are in a world of trouble when the two guys who handle the ball the most are black holes. ProfHoya said Dante was a liability when we press because of his lack of height and length. I disagreed, saying his quicks when we press more than make up for his lack of stature… you put a whole mess of other stuff in my mouth, though I think giving up on a guy who took is to a BET Championship five minutes ago is absurd

Like the poster (sorry I forget the handle) whose “other team” has been Vermont, now 76, it is a sign of the times that it is the Hilltop that, at least for now, actually could be said to contain what is your “other” team…

I'm very jealous of those who currently have "another team" to get through rough spots.

I'm very jealous of those who currently have "another team" to get through rough spots. I’m a die hard Hoyas, Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan. With the usually reliable one (Ravens) crapping out in the last two months of the season, things are tough for me right now lol. Looking forward to another 100 loss baseball season, albeit with perhaps a few exciting prospects making their debuts.
