What do we look like on scholarships? If we sign Macklin is that it as far as our 06-07 scholarships go? OR can we make space for Crews also, meaning that JW stays on walk on status. JW was suppossed to go to Princeton and they do not have scholarships to offer, so does he stay a walk on? I'm just trying to get a feel on this situation.

Is Ewing going to count as a scholarship? Maybe pops will be willing to pay for his sons tuition. Because right now we only have one remaining, and we will be better off with two you know.

Ewing will be on scholarship, and is already on scholarship. I don't think the AD has sent out formal confirmation, but I don't think they ever will.
But unlike other players, every source assumes he is a scholarship player. We've heard nothing different and a whole lot of confirmation (unofficially) that he is scholarship.
That said, we will have two scholarships for '07, at least.

Once you are on scholarship at a D1 member institution, you must always count as a schollie player no matter where you go, or how your financial situation changes. For example, if Jeff Green's mom hit the lotto tomorrow and won a zillion bucks and paid for Jeff's tution and everything else, he'd still count as a scholarship player for the remainder of his time on the Hilltop.

Not exactly. If Green won the lottery, he would be a counter but not necessarily receive a scholarship. The "counter" definition holds if they practice or otherwise participate as a student athlete, they are counted, regardless of scholarship aid awarded, so Princeton has no more than 13 "counters" even if they do not award schoalrship aid. Next example: if for example, Cornelio Guibunda transfers to a school and does not play basketball, he would not be counted as a scholarship player at a new school.

Right, that's what I said. He'd COUNT even though he wasn't getting a schollie. How are we in disagreement DFW? Me confused...

In NCAA speak, he would still count as a counter, but not as a scholarship player.
Put another way, Georgetown doesn't have to offer 13 scholarships to have 13 counters on the team.

Ok yeah, we're saying the same thing... I just didn't have the vocab to get it across.

Nothing sizzles like offseason 'counting as counters' talk.

I believe it's the third person singular indicative of the infinitive "to be".

I think we have room for 2 more '06 commits if a)JW doesn't get a scholarship b)Jeff heads to the NBA after his sophomore year or c)somebody transfers before the start of next school year. The most likely of those is Jon not getting a scholarship, though its somewhat taboo to speculate on that. However, if we do give out 2 more scholarships in 2006, then we'll have only 1 open scholarship--the one vacated by Sead's graduation-- to give out to the 2007 class, unless Jeff goes pro early or someone transfers between now and then.

I don't really know anything about scholarships, but I do know that Pat Ewing Jr. paid for his summer school classes with a check that had his father's name on it... He still could be on scholarship and it just doesn't start until the fall, but as far as I know none of the other scholarship players have ever turned in a check for ANY of their classes... Maybe Pat isn't on scholarship?

Whether he is or not is irrelevant. He will COUNT against the 13 you are allowed to have.
