I can understand why it would take the powers that be so long to clear him/make him eligible...afterall, he most recently played in a college game over a year and a half ago...

Was Bristol dressed and on the bench for the Butler game? I didn't see him on TV during any of the timeouts, although I might have missed him. I don't know what his situation is as it relates to being cleared to play by the NCAA, but I would think adding him the roster would indicate he is cleared to play. It may also be a case of the staff and player trying to decide what is best for the player and his future. Does Bristol want to give up some of his eligibility to play in a few games at the end of this year?

I would love to see him play and there should be no question that the team could use him.

Was Bristol dressed and on the bench for the Butler game? I was pretty sure I saw him on the bench in uniform when the camera panned that direction during the first half but I didn't rewind to be certain.

He wasn’t on the bench.

I don't understand how not being able to travel with the team has held back his progress in getting in basketball shape but it's good to read he's doing well...

Taking a step back from this comment from Ewing...and maybe I am mistaken...but I don't recall any comments he has made recently that give any indication that he was thinking about next season... His remark that says "he will really help us next year"...and yes maybe I am reading way too much into it...but that says to me he assumes he is back next year. My gut tells me that he is back next year with almost a completely different (if not totally new) coaching staff. Not want I want but that's where I would put my money at this time.

I hope that Bristol can play- we will need shooting from him and Anglin next year.

If he has 2 new assistants I'd be happy with that. He needs someone that is strong with the Xs and Os and he needs someone that brings passion to D.

What good assistants will want to be part of Ewing’s train wreck? XandO guy will be difficult but the defensive guy isn't that hard to find. Defensive is passion and want to. Very few times do you see a team do something that is schemed up that is super impressive. So it's not about finding some great defensive mind like the NFL. Just need someone that really cares about D.

Who is going to be out there finding this magical coach who is good enough to fix this mess and also would consider this to be an upgrade over what he is doing? Ewing has no clue so he’s not getting it done. Ronny Thompson? One of the other assistants? How is this going to work?

Even assuming you’re right, why would that guy want to come aboard our sinking ship rather than join a program with some hope of success (and therefore additional opportunities)? And what does it say about our current staff (including the guy on top) that they don't have this passion?

I'm not saying that there isn't any schematics to D but be real there are at most 10 base Ds to choose from. A few variations of presses. The key is to make D a priority. In HS we would run sprints behind defensive lapses. Too many and coach would pull out the bricks. You run enough sprints while carrying bricks you learn your assignments....Every college has a Jagan Moseley or Brilly Trawick on the roster. Find one that's given up the hoop dream and offer him a chance to coach D1 ball. I'm not saying get him off the street I'm just saying they're are players that want in on this level that have a passion for D. Ewing and his staff obviously don't put enough emphasis on D. No way he even recruits Kaiden if he did.

Amen - defense win games. We need to play zone (NBA uses zone a lot - not talked about though). The best offense comes off good defense especially in college. Also, I saw a stat that we did not have any fast break points yesterday. The 5 spot hedges to far and does not have enough quickness to recover to stop lobs and easy buckets at the rim. As I asked before - what is being discussed in the film sessions. Who is our floor general.

If finding a defensive coach isn't hard, why didn't Ewing hire one in 2017, and why hasn't he hired one since? Ewing is also the big man on campus. If he doesn't allow a defensive assistant full control (unlikely) then it won't matter. These are pipe dreams about next year. If anybody thinks a change in assistants is going to solve this problem, I have a bridge to sell them, particularly when roster turnover is likely, and likely not in a good way.

Been impressed with Speedy Bristol’s defense and hustle. Really using his length to get out on 3 point shooters and disrupt shots.
The 3 pters and scoring will come in time when he becomes 3pt Pistol Bristol.
He won’t be able to keep it up but for a 6-6 wing he is tied for 19th in the nation in blocked shots at 3 blocks a game.
I really like that he is using up his fouls as a rotation/bench player as that is indicative of tight defense while also protecting the top players from picking up fouls.

Based on what I saw this Saturday he is the fave at this time to start at the SF/three this season. Jay Heath first off the bench.
