It’s official that Messi will not sign another contract with Barcelona and can leave on a free due to the debt Barcelona has built up and inability to keep all of its players. It is very sad even not as an avid barca fan to see this era come to an end. Where will he end up? No idea right now due to how expensive his wages are. What is more interesting is that a private equity firm had just announced yesterday that they were injecting almost 3 billion euros into La Liga for a cut of future revenues as a cash injection to help the clubs but the league loses massive value with its star.

Further more (I’ll probably keep updating this just to keep anyone remotely interested in arguably the best soccer player ever) Barcelona apparently rejected their cut of the bail out provided by the private equity fund CVC as it would lock them out from ever joining a super league, but now that decision costed them Messi since they don’t have the money. They got the “bad regime” out but still making questionable decisions

Pandemic and shutdown crippled the overspending Spanish and Italian clubs. Style of play wise Liverpool might be interesting. Chealsa and Aresenal not so much.

this move could propel Man City into the stratosphere in terms of world wide popularity of their brand.

Man City and PSG are seemingly the only clubs that can realistically afford his wages, but I think this is a bluff by Barcelona to put pressure on La Liga. Provide some flexibility or watch your biggest commercial draw walk. But hey, maybe La Liga saw this coming and that's why they sold 10% of their business.

I agree that PSG and Man city are really the only destinations possible and there are arguments for both. Especially since there was a possibility that mega 5 year multi team deal with City last season since they also own NYCFC but I genuinely have no clue. If he wants to relax with easier league play and focus on Champions league then PSG is the spot but England could quite the place to get in the bag since there was always much pride in England about how Messi wouldn't be able to do well there

Usually I don't like Galacticos type unfair stacking of teams but watching DeBruyen/Mahrez/Greelish feed Messi will be amazing. Messi may average 3 goals a game.

It would be quite the way to jerk the fans around if this was all a trick, I would walk away as Messi anyway since he needed to take a salary cut and barca is probably not gonna be good enough again this season

That said, I agree they should walk away. Barca screwed themselves by paying Messi so much so they need to blow it all up and start it over.

They should have also never tried to leave for the Super League along with that gremlin Joel Glazer
