When most of the A level talent says no thanks, and the guys that remain play with the intensity of the NBA All Star game, this is what happens. Also France has serious talent.

And the way the US lost the game in the last four minutes was troubling.

And the way the US lost the game in the last four minutes was troubling. No offensive flow, chucking up the 3s and turnovers. Not like a Popovich-coached team IMHO.

There's no Alpha superstar on the team like a Lebron or Giannis. KD says hello, and if Lillard isn't an Alpha superstar, he's damn close. I think what we're seeing is that the huge talent gap that used to exist no longer exists, and that teams that have played together for significant periods of time and then added two or three NBA players have an advantage over a team that has only been together for a few weeks, even if the latter team has a talent advantage. This fellow Doncic had a pretty fair first game. He may have a future in the NBA.

The fact that Pop has been willing to be vocal and use his platform is part of the solution to a better way forward, IMO.

And since this appears to be the de facto USA Basketball at the Tokyo Olympics thread, we would be remiss without noting... absolute domination.
Among the very best of America's children. What a joy to watch them all.

They likely question the "soul" of America from a wholly perverted perspective: They question the fact that non-White and non-native born Americans seek to fully participate in American civil rights and economic opportunity because it threatens their continued White domination of the American economic and political power structure. This applies to even poor, rural Whites because of its tribal nature. Even those same poor White people are frightened by the demographic change in the offing. It's a gut level race-based and cultural fear. The sociopath gave voice to their fear for his own craven purposes, the corrupt pursuit of power and money. Popovich and Steve Kerr are two NBA coaches who get it as the NBA is certainly more progressive than, say, the NFL.

Washington Post By Ava Wallace Today at 4:36 a.m. EDT SAITAMA, Japan — The three women who have helped define U.S. women’s basketball in some role or another for the past 25 years sat side by side Sunday, reflecting on their careers and legacies and, in Diana Taurasi’s case, taking pirate swigs from a bottle of champagne. The 39-year-old, fresh from becoming the first basketball player to win five gold medals along with her longtime friend and teammate Sue Bird, seemed the only one who was reluctant to declare her USA Basketball career over. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/olympics/2021/08/08/dawn-staley-sue-bird-us-womens-basketball-olympic-gold/?itid=hp-top-table-main

This might be the most pithy and pin-point accurate summary of Trumpism and, hence, the state of the GOP in the 21st Century ever posted on HoyaTalk. Certainly the attitudinal surveys in the social sciences support this conclusion. Well done, SSHoya!!
