This has been an issue since the start of the pandemic with the situation evolving and everyone obviously hurting. However, if an institution of higher learning wants to make claims of meeting 100% need and promise it to students who make long term decisions with it then the institution should follow through and not try the end around on students. I have friends who are current and nearing graduation and they tell me that the administration has severely undershot the needs of many students. One is particular is supposed to somehow conjure another $15000 out of thin air (as in it is that much over their expect family contribution) after already taking on more loans as part of their "package". This apparently was an issue before the Fall last year as well and they need to repair this or stop bragging about something that is not true anymore.

This goes back far before it. I remember someone who had to finish his studies at Maryland because the demonstrated need calculus changed on him as a senior. But it's not some sort of bait and switch--if the numbers change, they risk trouble of another kind if they fail to adjust it.

Oh I’m sure it has happened before but don’t say “we are in this together and we care about the whole person” and then reneg on a promise that can literally break families financially. Students are considering going to the press because they aren’t actually meeting 100% need and it’s literally a lie
