Hopefully things like this will mean they don't have a stupid nickname that makes them hate each other. Welcome to Aminu and the class that will turn this all around!

Hopefully the next welcome to DC is to a real defensive coach.

The defense has been bad but will “miraculously” improve in a big way with Riley & Aminu joining Dante to provide superior on ball defense.
Before all the defections last season there was a defensive intensity trying to lead to fast break offense. The wagon can only be pulled as fast the horses in front of it.

Maybe but I think you are underestimating the impact that coaching, scheme, and strategy can have. That plus talent is a pretty powerful combo.

Sure- and I think that they are equipped to do just that.

Sure- and I think that they are equipped to do just that. Given the absolutely dreadful and consistently dreadful defense over the past four years with completely different players, I can’t imagine why you would think that.

There can be joy and happiness in life too. Even in 2020. We just got a commitment from our top-rated recruit in 6+ years. Take a moment to just enjoy that. Tomorrow we can go back to complaining.

A sad day in mudville for He Who Must Not be Named, his number one, Double97 and his minions.

NY Knick draft pick Obi Toppin is a freakishly good athlete with a fairly developed offensive game. His defense is from all reports pretty bad. Coach Thibs is an excellent defensive coach & the hope is he can “coach” up Toppin to be a decent defender.
Jordan & Aminu are STRONG defenders with the ability to put intense on ball pressure at multiple positions on the perimeter. I feel Dante Harris is also strong on the ball. More importantly they are DAWGS with the desire to defend.
Before the defections last season the team had some tenacious stretches with pressure defense leading to fast break offense.
Defense will be a strength next season.

A sad day in mudville for He Who Must Not be Named, his number one, Double97 and his minions. Why do you think this would make me unhappy? I want the team to be better and this obviously helps. But, I’m pretty sure talent alone is not going to do it.

Probably belongs in the Program Approach thread, but since it's being discussed here...
Would love to see a defensive-minded coach come in as well. Obviously the talent incoming next year has been upgraded significantly as of yesterday, but it still has to be coached. We've not had a defense ranked higher than 95 under the current staff. Could it be better (currently 120th) with an infusion of athleticism next year? Yes, probably. Can it get to where it needs to be for us to be considered a solid defensive team (top 50ish) with zero change in scheme? I'm a bit more skeptical.
We've also got at least one '22 recruit in another thread (Rodney Rice) who has more or less said Georgetown needs to show something in local recruiting before he'd consider us. Whether you want to count Aminu as local is debatable (personally I'd go with no), but the point was made. The next step for us is to step it up locally.
Kirby's brought in Beard and Aminu (per Tyler Adams), Orr had a big hand in Riley and Billingsley. Mutombo obviously knew Patrick going in. If we're looking for a defensive-minded assistant with some ability to improve local recruiting, there's an obvious slot to fill.

Good players will not be enough.
