Well there you go--not what I wanted. My undergrad v. law school. Always lean to the Hoyas but no one should sleep on the Aztecs. They are going to be a good team again this year and will have a home court crowd. I was just going to say the same thing. I know people are going to scoff at me bringing up Lunardi's bracketology in July but he has them as a 9 seed for what's that worth... I expect us to lose by double digits. San Diego State will have a significant in-game coaching advantage.

I’m guessing the players may have some impact on the result.

I watched almost every Aztec game and it is hard to compare them with the Hoyas because of the level of competition. Typically, the MWC cannot compare favorably to the BE. The difference is really noticeable in the middle and lower tiers of the conferences. Under Dutcher SDSU is always going to be aggressive on defense and last year they were pretty good defending the perimeter. Interior defense is another issue and with the exception of a few years back with Kawhi the interior game on both ends of the court has never been exceptional. I think that Pickett, Bile and Wahab would have done nicely against the Aztec defense. On offense the Aztecs had a good perimeter game last year. The issue for the coming season will be adding the transfers to what will be a veteran team with 6-7 seniors. Dutcher has done very well with transfers over the years and this year he added a guard from Cal who is highly touted and a wing and forward from Duquense and TCU. Don't know much about either other than the hype. I guess the issue for me will be a veteran team with talent against a very young Hoya squad with talent playing early in the year up the road from SDSU and across the country for the Hoyas. Right now that matchup seems to be better for the Aztecs than the Hoyas.

We are going to hear about season tickets at some point, right? Would have thought there would be some kind of plan announced by now.

If we played our games in an on campus arena, the scheduling/ticket news would come quickly. We play in a pro arena, so our scheduling has to work around all the other events.

I haven't even gotten an email asking if I want to renew my season tickets. They used to send that out right after the previous season ended.

I think it would be a great idea if Georgetown started a John Thompson Jr. Tournament every year, much like the Wooden Legacy. The tournament could either be a local event that raised money for the DMV or a more national event that raised monies for some other purpose. While Big John's legacy is still fresh in the memories of most of the college basketball world, the Hoyas could construct something--either 4 or 8 teams, that would further heighten college basketball interest in the area. Does anyone know if this is something that has been considered? The John Thompson Classic ran in the 2001-02 season. It lacked sponsorship to support a multi team (bracket) event and was essentially a GU home game with a opening doubleheader. --Adminguhoyas.com/news/2001/12/5/John_Thompson_Classic_Tickets_going_fast.aspx?path=mbball

2021 Paycom Wooden Legacy Dates: Nov. 25 and 26 Site: Anaheim Convention Center/Anaheim, Calif. First-round matchups: USC vs. Saint Joseph's Georgetown vs. San Diego State Team to beat: USC. While his brother, Evan, is set to make millions as a lottery pick in the NBA next season, Isaiah Mobley -- who had a breakthrough performance in his team's run to the Elite Eight -- is now the leader of a squad that returns three starters, adds Memphis transfer Boogie Ellis and incorporates a handful of solid recruits for a team that can make a statement. Sleeper team: San Diego State isn't a typical "sleeper" since it wouldn't surprise anyone if the squad won this event after bringing in Cal transfer Matt Bradley (18.0 PPG, 4.6 RPG) and Duquesne transfer Chad Baker-Mazara (9.5 PPG, 42% from the 3-point line). Player to watch: Five-star recruit Aminu Mohammed, ranked 25th in the 2021 class, leads a group of talented prospects and transfers at Georgetown that hope to build on last season's miraculous run to the Big East tournament championship. Something for the college hoops junkies: Two years ago, Saint Joseph's dismissed longtime coach Phil Martelli for underperformance, but his successor, Billy Lange, has won fewer games (11) in his past two seasons combined than Martelli won in his final season (14). The St. Joe's fan base will be paying close attention to every game this season, including the contests the program will play in Anaheim in this event, as they search for signs of progress. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/31821572/your-guide-six-early-season-2021-22-college-basketball-tournaments#Wooden

Could there be a worse time for a game than 8:30 on Thanksgiving night? Or for that matter, any time in the evening on Thanksgiving night? I was planning to trek down from the SFV for this, but sorry, I'm not leaving my family on Thanksgiving night to drive 100 miles round trip to see the Hoyas. I was there for the Greg Monroe team's win over Washington, but this is a no can do.

No way the trip over & back + game would take less than 6 hrs on Thanksgiving.

We are not a marquee program at this point - hence the scheduling issues. Less about the program and more about the tournament. Excepting the Egg Bowl on Thursday night, almost all of ESPN's Thanksgiving programming is to run against NFL games that day. Since ESPN owns the events, the west coast games always get moved to the late hours. espnpressroom.com/us/press-releases/2021/07/matchups-for-espn-events-2021-mens-college-basketball-tournaments-are-set/As noted earlier, Thanksgiving traffic in Los Angeles can be a problem. The 5 to Anaheim won't be as bad as the 405 was in this famous YouTube video, but it can be a mess too.

Right now that matchup seems to be better for the Aztecs than the Hoyas. As a fellow SDSU season ticket holder, I mostly agree with Cal’s assessment. Under both Dutcher and Fisher, SDSU has mostly gone as far as transfers have taken them (the kawhi sweet 16 year aside). Two years ago they had a fabulous transfer trio which included current raptor Malachi Flynn, and if not for COVID, that could have been a final 4 run. Such a shame because that team was awesome. Interesting note, the dad of one of that trio, KJ Feagin, posted on hoyatalk when he was still in hs trying to hype his kid, and as I recall, someone responded that he likely wasn’t big east material but he should look at WCC schools. He ended up at Santa Clara where he was very good defense and pass first pg and was terrific as a grad transfer for sdsu. Not sure I’d call that a miss for the hoyas, but he would have fit in just fine at this level… Anyways, Aztecs were decent last year, but end of year Hoyas probably beat them. Aztecs lose their top three scorers from last year, and only really return a couple guys who were meaningful contributors. Most notable returner is probably Nathan Mensah, a Qudus type center with less of an offensive game, but a bit better defensively. Mensah was expected to make a leap last year and really didn’t, although he is still a serious interior presence. There is also a shifty pg who can’t shoot (Pulliam), a hyper-athletic forward who has yet to put it together (Johnson), a solid depth and defense guard (Seiko) a back up center who transferred from Maryland last year and had a surprisingly good season (Tomaic), and a couple of rising Sophs who showed some promise in limited minutes (Dinwiddie and Butler). As Cal said, Dutcher brought in a big transfer class—so if those guys turn out to be the real deal, Aztecs will be tough—but aside from the kid transferring from Berkeley, the other guys are question marks. I think Hoyas will likely be a more talented and athletic team, but as both teams will have largely brand new cores, the question for an early season game like this one will be which coach can get his group to get more quickly. Aztecs fans also travel pretty well, so it will almost certainly (assuming no COVID issues) be a de facto SDSU home game.

And a Top 25 recruiting class coming in. Maybe your self-loathing is getting in the way of rational analysis, but GU is a big time hoops program whether you like it or not. Tone down the relentless negativity, take a step back and accept that we are Georgetown
