Yes, you are right. It is a shame. But considering he almost died last year, this is a relatively small setback for him. Maybe bigger for UCONN, but I don't know their entire roster. That Willams kid played great at PG last year. Also, there was that story about a couple of UCONN players getting busted for stealing from their dormmates? who was that and what happened to that story? ANy suspensions?

Price was one of those rumored to be involved in the theft. If that's true and he was indeed part of it my sympathy for him decreases by a lot.

I feel bad for the kid -- stealing laptops is pretty bad (if true) but the sentence should hardly be what he's gone through. If the worst is that he never plays basketball again, he is probably lucky.
As for criminal charges, even if they are guilty, Convicticut will never let it get that far. Calhoun will suspend Williams and Price for the game versus the Central Connecticut State women's team, and announcers will rave about his no-nonsense policy and character.

No, I do feel bad for the kid health-wise. I don't wish that on anyone, no matter what their school.

I'm from CT. When the story broke a couple of months ago or so, Marcus Williams and AJ Price were the guys implicated in the thefts. Stolen were laptops from dorms, including some from other athletes, maybe even women's bball, which does nothing to better the Calhoun/Auriemma relationship.
I believe that Williams had a connection to sell them (it might even have been tried on ebay). In any event, the article in the Stamford Advocate said police were involved. I swear I haven't seen one single follow-up. I wouldn't put it past Calhoun to have helped sweep it under the rug and an obsequious media giving a helpful assist.
UConn men's bball has had several issues recently -- Kellogg's arrests, blowup on bench at Blaney and expulsion, Vaughan arrest and resignation, Calhoun's outside income violating state ethics rules, and the laptop thefts involving your 2 top candidates at PG -- and the stuff barely gets mentioned, let alone blowing up into a scandal. No one will touch Calhoun.
Can't the Hoyas just wipe the floor with these punks this year? For me....

I haven't seen any followups in my local paper (New Haven Register) either.

FWIW, this article at least mentions the laptop issue: www.courant.com/sports/hc-ucmen0722.artjul22,0,1714227.story "Price and Marcus Williams are under investigation in connection with the alleged theft of four laptop computers from campus dorm rooms in June. No arrests have been made in the case, but the investigation continues, according to police." But, I join in Rejuvenation's request for the Hoyas to smack down UCONN, if only for personal reasons. I just don't get people in Fairfield County rooting for UCONN (unless they went there, I guess I can see that...). I mean, most people develop their sports teams associations as a kid, and I never watched UCONN back then. I grew up watching Gtown, Syracuse, SJU and SHU. When they first started to play better ball, I was ok with that, kinda like I didn't mind the Patriots until the Belichick era. Interesting novelty until they 1) interfere with my team and 2) they (and their fans) get annoying.

I don't get why people from the southern part of the state are big UCon fans either. I especially hate the womens team. My four years of high school coincided with Diana Taurasi's four years at UCon. Every morning when I would open the paper to look for high school hockey scores, I was greeted with pictures of her and her teammates. Not exactly a pleasant sight, especially if it's the first thing one has to look at in the morning. I hope we beat the Huskies this year, and I hope Jeff embarasses Rudy Gay in the process.
