I think many thought Ewing’s celebrity would land him more elite level recruits than it has. He has even acknowledged that none of the recruits who were most impressed with his celebrity have signed with the Hoyas. That was disappointing.
I think as the Hoyas improve his celebrity will serve as a flywheel for him.
Ewing is literally larger than life. He attracts attention, and he is so likable. I can hardly find an opposing fan base that says anything ill of him. Anyone not a Creighton fan is rooting for him tonight.
With success will come even higher media presence. A very high media presence + likeability + reputation for winning can only improve his recruiting effectiveness. And once it starts, it will be difficult to disrupt that momentum.
I am predicting the Class of 2022 to be very, very strong based on what is unfolding.

Winning begets winning ... both on the court and the recruiting trail.

It’s not too difficult to leapfrog all the programs in the conference outside of Villanova and UConn.

I think it’s important to remember it’s not just about recruiting the best talent possible.
It’s also about recruiting kids who will respond to Ewing’s style, thrive at a school like Georgetown, and are of high integrity, character, and commitment.
Don’t compromise. Not worth it.

Think we might be getting carried away. Why are we getting carried away?

Think we might be getting carried away. Not really. It is there for the taking. Ewing has come very close on so many high level recruits that this recent success as well as the revival of the media recognition of Georgetown because of Thompson's death can help him and the program get to that level. It also helps that the school resides in arguably the richest hotbed of high school basketball talent in the country. And don't forget he just made a huge breakthrough with Aminu which signals to other recruits that Georgetown can indeed be a destination spot for elite talent once more.

Winning games, especially meaningful games in March, can only help recruiting. This is why winning tonight, and the attention it would get us would be so huge going into next year and for recruiting.
People want to play for winners. Until this run, that narrative was really hard to paint. It is easier now, and an NCAA bid would truly support that narrative of a program on the rise. The news media would love to run with this narrative, too, so all we need to do is give them results to support it.

Winning begets winning ... both on the court and the recruiting trail. This is true, but my point is that winning will help Ewing more than because of his media presence + his likeability. It could have a supercharging effect. Note that this years class was strong before the winning.

Which is why taking advantage of the BE format in which the championship game is played on broadcast TV in prime time before the other conferences is key. Gtown has FINALLY made it to this spotlight game on FOX.

Think we might be getting carried away. Come get carried away with the BIG EAST CHAMPS, Ed. It’s way more fun.

Don't know what it ultimately leads to but it sure can't hurt that Fox Sports gave us about an hour of what amounted to a nationally broadcast Georgetown Recruiting video tonight.

Aminu & Riley are KILLERS like Dante. The Hoyas now play with FORCE. Bile & Dante started it and the rest of the team is doing it now too, it comes down to wanting the ball more than the other guy sometimes.
Patrick will get the Hoyas to be contenders again.

I had underestimated the unique chance Ewing would have to dominate the conversation on the New York stage. I am reluctant to draw too many long-term conclusions from one big week, but we just dominated national headlines throughout the week. I will say this — if we go on a sustained run here, we will look back on this team and this week as the spark that got things going. And I definitely think we can use this week’s success to hopefully continue to build on our recent recruiting successes. Ewing and Georgetown got tons of press this week and lots of support from former NBA colleagues. That unique background really helped elevate the coverage to another level during the week. Without overstating it, I think what we did was bigger than just a standard 4-day run through the BET.
