YaBoyNyP...if you feel that its a massive overreaction "for a number of reasons" I'd like to hear your reasons...and why you think we suddenly (apparently) completely disappeared from his list after arguably being at or near the top with him being our # 1 priority...I certainly don't think its the end of the world IF we get someone at the SF position as good or better, otherwise the situation stings considering the length of our involvement, etc.If something caused this riff, I'd sure like to know what it was...maybe we backed off for good reasons...maybe we just got out recruited...In the end, for the program to advance, we need to land kids like this imo...

Did he ever end up visiting us? Been skeptical since no word came out of that initial June 4 date. Definitely weird but I see why he'd be attracted to what Xavier is selling him on

I have not seen any "final list", but if its true that we were not on it, then something had to have happened that dramatically changed his situation...we were long believed to be his leader (after all, we offered him on 9/20 and according to 247 sports, Xavier offered him TODAY)...if he goes to Xavier over staying at home and playing for a HOF coach at a school he's always dreamed of attending, this to me would be a catastrophic recruiting failure...I know, folks will say we will get somebody else blah blah, but I doubt we'll get anyone better...I will continue to wait patiently, but recruiting is the lifeblood of a program's success or failure, and you can't lose people who are priorities in your own back yard to your conference opponents out of the area...still a good ways to go for '22 but we need to start closing the guys we want and getting results... Ewing was a Hall of Fame player. He most certainly is not a Hall of Fame coach.

It seems to me that we lost traction by not hiring his HS coach. If that is the case then it's not a blow against the coaches. We can't go around hiring coaches just for to sign recruits. Especially a recruit that was in the 100s at the time his HS coach was hired. Let Ward go to VT or X if that's what it took to get him. I'll be happy with Watson....

Who was the assistant coach in charge of his recruitment? On the 1st page Ward is quoted as saying Coach Ewing is the one who calls him and offered him....

Grant Hill said Georgetown was his dream school also and his mom wanted him to go to Georgetown as well but he fell in love with Coach K after a visit … Recruiting can go 1,000 different ways for 1,000 different reasons it don’t have to be anyone’s fault… Just move on to the next recruit ..

Shocking that an 18-year old may change his mind. Unbelievable! 😀

That’s not what happened with the Grant Hill recruitment. It was derailed by a certain reading exercise: greensboro.com/hill-scorned-georgetown-for-duke-after-recruiting-offense/article_f1e8195b-f5f3-5c33-9ec7-420f35b980a1.htmlDetroit Pistons rookie Grant Hill said he decided to attend Duke instead of his childhood favorite Georgetown after an academic coordinator from Georgetown made him read aloud, according to a published report. In the Dec. 16-18 issue of USA WEEKEND, the Reston, Va., native said he attended every Georgetown home game since 1983 and was interested in playing for John Thompson.During the recruiting process, Hill said he was asked to read aloud from a book by an academic coordinator. ``What does this show? This doesn't show my intelligence,' Hill said of the oral test. ``I was a little offended. So I erased Georgetown from the picture.'

Very well-known and confirmed story that showed how tone-deaf Fenlon and Big John could be with their “we don’t play favorites” recruiting mentality. Grant Hill wasn’t some poor kid from Anacostia who was an academic reach. Everyone involved should have known better. That one was 100 on us.

How do you know he was our #1 priority? Imo now is the time when you find out who top priorities are or not. Everything to this point is us guessing, but when you see the head coach show up to multiple games for a kid in July/August that gives you insight into who they are recruiting hard, and who they think they can get. As usual top priority to the board doesn’t mean top priority for the staff.

Besides Michael Graham leaving after one season the Grant Hill fiasco has to be up there in terms of missed opportunities. Paired with Mourning & Mutombo who knows what could have been.

This is disappointing especially if he goes to a rival and a rival that I might add is arguably having its coach's seat heat up this season so it might really help Steele keep his job and have a big negative effect on us overall
