"Meanwhile, Oregon is putting together a proposal for Ducks donors, including Nike CEO and Oregon alumnus Phil Knight, to contribute to the on-campus facility. The school is hoping to get the arena built by the 2008 season. Oregon just bought the land near Mac Court and moved a bakery to start the process." A. Katz
Aside from the "yet another new facility" story, would it be a good guess to assume that Nike's long relationship with GU was a factor in getting the Hoyas to sign on to the Oregon game? I wonder if Knight sweetened the pot with a charter flight for the Hoyas? Getting to Oregon from DC can't be easy on scheduled commercial airlines. Total speculation on my part, but... hey, who knows.

I'm not entirely sure that's the case, and yes it is pure speculaiton...
... but stranger things have happened. I wouldn't be surprised if Knight had a somewhat minor role in this.
Of course, if Knight/Nike have THAT close a relationship with GU, why the hell aren't we playing our home games in the on-campus, 10,000 seat John Thompson Jr. Court at the Nike Convocation Center?

If you guys really want to see what a new facility can look like, wait until you all see what Oregon drops in the next few years. From what I'm hearing, it is scheduled to be around $180 million facility. I am pretty sure the next most expensive in NCAA is Maryland's $120 million. Nike, as a company, has special roots in the University of Oregon, and is not afraid to show it by dishing out cash to give UO the best facilities in the nation. Of course, Nike, as a company proper isn't doing this, but rather "Uncle Phil," as he is known to UO graduates out here. PS: Phil spends on non-athletic areas as well, as with the UO Knight Law School and UO Knight Library.

How about moving the track at the Nike HQs to DC and put it on the GU campus?! That track is fabulous - you can't see one end from the other because of the forest in the middle. My son interviewed with Tektronix across the way, when I viewed the Nike campus with its track.

Here's a good model: tulsahurricane.collegesports.com/facilities/tuls-reynolds-center.html - about the right size and not too expensive to build.

"Since opening, the Reynolds Center has hosted a Reba McIntyre concert, NAIA national basketball tournament and a Bob Newhart concert. Sinbad will perform in the center as part of this season's homecoming festivities. "
Screw basketball -- we need this for Reba, Newhart and Sinbad! Sweet headliners!

I'm laughing so hard I'm crying right now... "Sinbad doesn't tells jokes – "I don't know any," he admits – instead, he stalks the stage, telling real-life stories. He doesn't deliver payoff lines; he slam-dunks them! His comedy is large, physical, and impetuous. Psychologically, he jams us, poking holes in our lifestyles. His stories mirror our foibles. His is the explosive energy of the neighborhood; his phrasing is manic, musical and right on time. He doesn't write his material, he relives it as he remembers it." Also choice: "Sinbad transcended into late night talk with ease, creating quick repartee with any guest. "When you get the opportunity to get into business with someone like Sinbad, you don't pass it up," said Quincy Jones. "He is a veteran performer known for his unique comedic voice and larger than life personality." Sinbad hosted "Vibe" from 1997-98." www.associatedentertainment.com/aec/National-Acts/Comedians-Category-3/Sinbad

Yes the fact that Sinbad and Reeba are the only people to play there is a tad sad ...

The key word in that sentence was PBS. His time has come and gone.
