How’s Marquette this year? What do our chances look like without Markus Howard going for like 50 whenever he wants? And lastly, does Wojo still have the most punchable face in the Big East?

Marquette's year has been....interesting. Wins against Wisconsin and Creighton carry a ton of weight. At the same time, 5-5 and off to 1-3 start in the conference.
You would've thought Marquette without Howard would transition into a more defensive focused team...and that has not been remotely the case. They're still an elite offense that is much more well rounded. They shoot the 3 really well (39.6%, 25th in country), grab a ton of offensive rebounds, and live at the free throw line.
The defense...well its currently 94th in D Efficiency per Bart Torvik, 87th KenPom. Some of these things are going to sound familiar...they don't turn teams over (14.8% TO rate, 315th in country), allow teams to shoot 34.6% from 3 (215th) and allow teams to take a ton of 3s (3pr of 41.8, 265th). In Big East games they've allowed over an average of 12 made 3s per game. Basically the only thing they do well is defend 2s, although even those numbers look a little inflated from their first two games. But Theo John is a solid interior defender so that does make sense.
Garcia as a freshman already looks like what we hoped Pickett would become. Really looking forward to hearing about Justin Lewis returning home after playing HS at Baltimore Poly.
I haven't been able to watch them much so I'm not sure what they really do when John is off the court, although from the minutes distribution it almost looks like they play Lewis and Garcia together. Curious to see if we go small and match or stay w more traditional lineups.

Would like to see small ball or move Wahab out a little and let him try to take 8-10 foot jumper (which I believe he did a few times last year and can hit if given the opportunity). It would force John to come out. Without Govan and Yurtseven, Ewing is playing offense only using his posts down low--back to the basket, no kick out, baby hooks. Even McClung and Akinjo would find it impossible to drive the lane with this approach. Alternatively, go small at times and use Bile (cue outrage), Sibley or Clarke to help with rebounding. Just a thought.

10 days between games is too much What happened to the Creighton game? Why did the Big East reschedule it?

10 days between games is too much It’s perfect for coaches who want to teach execution in the middle of a season. No excuses...

Every year, there's some guy who evokes a reaction of: He's still there? Hasn't it been like 6 or 7 years? You look it up and it's only the fourth year. This year's guy, to me, is Theo John. He's still there?

10 days between games is too much What happened to the Creighton game? Why did the Big East reschedule it? I am not sure a reason was ever officially given, but I assume it has to do with the schedule shuffling that occurred because of the COVID problems at Connecticut and DePaul.

Playing in McDonough helps. Will we see another battle of the halves? In most games so far at McD one basket has been a lot kinder than the other for both teams.

GAMEDAY!!
A 10 day break is way too long as a fan but I'm glad the guys were able to enjoy their holidays. Hopefully they hit the gym hard and have cleaned up a lot of the mistakes and have worked on playing as a team. Play physical, aggressive, and hit the boards hard. This is a new year and about the time that we would normally start BE play...lets come out ready to go.
Hope to see more Kobe now that he's had plenty of time to recover. No news on Jalen so hope Date, Blair, Clark, and Berger can take care of the ball, put their teammates in good positions, and score when given the opportunity. I'd love to see Qudus and Timmy get the ball downlow, go up hard, and draw fouls on Marquette. Then I hope we get good Pickett and good (and limited) Bile.
Go Hoyas!!!

FYI - Ewing was quoted as saying Jalen is still home. They’ve exchanged texts but it appears a return in the near term is not expected and it seems returning at all is a question.

Was at the Marquette game last year. I don't care what happens as long as we don't have to endure another 42 point embarrassment by Marcus Howard.

Hoyas +4.5...surprisingly small spread. You get roughly 3 points for HCA. That means if this game was on a neutral court it would be 7.5 and at Marquette 10.5. Being that big of an underdog to a mid to bottom level is a lot. I’m old enough to remember when we were never a home dog.

This game is winnable. Marquette is very good at going through long stretches of just not scoring for whatever reason and we are going to have to take advantage of that. Also, don't let them shoot it 40+% from three and we have a good chance. Pounding it inside to Q is a very bad idea when John is in, so... don't do that. That's a recipe for disaster.
