The SJU Torch has a photo of the Taffner Field House, under construction. This will serve as the practice and training facility for the Redmen. "The new state-of-the-art practice facility, which many schools in the Big East already have something similar to, is expected to greatly aid coaches in recruiting," reads the Torch article. Granted, you can't drop something like this onto the Georgetown footprint, but that doesn't mean GU shouldn't consider some creative alternatives to the program's facility needs. www.torchonline.com/vnews/display.v?TARGET=showImage&article_id=42d41fa39771c&image_num=1

The the_way teasing is getting a touch excessive. But that does look real nice, and is a nice thing for their program, which Im hoping gets back on track over the next few years.

I don't know what you're talking about with the baiting - if the shoe fits wear it, if the shoe fits wear it.

Wow - that looks sick for a smaller school on campus facility. Kind of reminds me of a modernized McD, no?

As good as it looks, I still think before we go rushing off to get our own we should create better administrative/film/study/weight/etc. rooms for the entire sports program and THEN move onto McD. In other words, get state of the art EVERYTHING except the home court. I mean EVERYTHING. Then when that's taken care of, worry about McD.

No argument there - we are behind in many facilities related issues including a home arena - it would be nice if we built an arena that took all of these things into account - but I think that's only a pipe dream right now.

Well, this begs the question--why is it a dream? Georgetown has functional if outdated business school facilities and it will commit $75 million to a new building. Why? It is an institutional priority...and they already lost a dean who got tired of the delays. Georgetown has an admittedly outdated science building and lacks the research funding to seriously compete in the sciences. However, it hopes to commit $75-100 million to build a science center despite the relatively small number of science majors in the University population. Why? It is an institutional priority. Georgetown had an aging law center building in the midst of a bad neighborhood and saw that it could not offer the facilities necessary to compete with comparable schools. Over the course of the last 10 years, the law campus has been transformed into an urban campus that can match up with the best of them. Why did they do this? It is an institutional priority. Where is this program going to be in 5 or 10 years without some reinvestment? What kind of message does it send?

I'm hopeful from what I've read about Bernard Muir that updated athletic facilities, including a plan for a newer McDonough, will become an institutional priority in the near future.
