Have any of the posters who incessantly criticize the program weighed in on Carey? Kind of classless of you to try to start a fight with people who disagree with you over the direction of the program and the job performance of a grown man paid millions of dollars by our program in a welcome thread for a kid paid nothing who just committed to the program. I think you misunderstand who is fair game and who is not.

He should definitely help this year, but I think his senior season might be the most important.
Looks like the backcourt for the 2021-2022 season could end up being pretty young (obviously there's a chance for other grad transfers next season). But having someone that's already in the program and that is a veteran should help the young guys like Beard and whoever else comes in

While some people think that every recruit that goes elsewhere is the second coming of Jordan, the staff's top priority and would have come if not for the failings of Patrick Ewing. And waiting for your post to be deemed classless. hm

The classy thing to do is to bash our highly paid coach for bringing in another garbage recruit. That way, you can make it clear what you really think, while cloaking it in criticism of someone who is "fair game".

This late in the offseason the staff is gonna bring in anyone who they can help so I don't begrudge the move. It's just perplexing that people think this changes our projection for next year or adding a low profile local transfer is the start of some local recruiting momentum.
I want something to be optimistic about in the worst way.

It's amazing that matter what the news there is always the super negative reaction or commentary. It has become so old and tiring to read. Redundant. Repetitive and adds nothing new were reading.

Have any of the posters who incessantly criticize the program weighed in on Carey? First off, I wouldn't consider myself incessant about bashing the program, but I'm also willing to criticize the program when I see fit, so I'm not sure if you are talking about me or not, but I'll talk (again) anyway, in more detail this time. I wouldn't say that this is a good move either considering it seems this is an easy way to switch the conversation and you opened up a whole new can of worms which I would say is a very bold decision. That being said, I think Carey is our best addition this offseason. I think he's easily the best shot creator on this team and should start from day one. I think if the shot clock winds down and the play doesn't work, Carey will get a pick and roll and will be the guy we expect to make a play. I don't think he's the best player on our team, but I think he should start next season and play a real role. I think for the people just looking at the numbers, Jalen Pickett is basically Carey except doing everything a little better and taking the ball out of Carey's hands. They seem to get along well based on twitter which shows maturity out of Carey and I think he will understand his role. Carey will be able to produce at this level as we've seen him do this and I think using Carey as a secondary PG would give Pickett and Blair much better looks. If Carey and Harris are used well, this team will be very solid offensively. As for defense, I think this unit is built to press. With Harris being really quick, Pickett being long and a solid athlete, Carey and Blair both being pretty quick and Q as a mobile big who can defend the rim if a player gets by our backcourt guys. If this team doesn't press though, the defense really worries me. I think Allen and Mosely were very good perimeter defenders and losing them really will hurt our defense and I don't think Harris and Carey make up for that. The defense is something that needs to improve and the schematics need to improve greatly. I think just looking at the numbers for Carey is not the best move. I think he's at his best with the ball in his hands and I hope he's used like a PG/secondary PG so he can be most effective. If Jalen Harris is out, I hope Carey at least plays some PG and can really show what he can do. Because when Jalen Pickett sat out, Carey did really well at leading that Siena offense. In the one game where Carey played and Pickett sat, while Siena lost to a good Colgate team, Carey had 14 (6/10 shooting) 8 boards and four assists, granted with 7 TO's. The TOs do scare me a bit, but I think if he's used as a secondary PG, I think those rates will go down and Carey will be able to play his best role. So, I really like this get. I think he's the best player we've brought in and I'd be shocked if he doesn't start. He's a solid defender and can lead a team, while also shooting it well from deep. I think getting a capable creator makes this team better than it would've been. I don't think this makes us a top end Big East team or an NCAA tournament team, but I think this team now has a much better chance to make it. I hope this team presses more and I think Carey gives our team another dimension which if used correctly could be really beneficial.

YOU made YOUR post about Ewing, as you always do. I was simply wondering if the program bashers would acknowledge that we had a little bit of good news. Thank you for answering that question.

I want something to be optimistic about in the worst way. It makes us better because it gives us another shooter, which is a big need. It may help bump us up a spot or two in the conference if forcing teams to respect us from outside keeps them from clogging the lane as much. But yeah, it does not make us an NCAA team.

I donât have an ideal type of player,â he said. âYou have to look at everyone that you recruit, see what kind of characteristics they have. Youâd love to have somebody who has a high motor, who can shoot, who can dribble, who can rebound, who can pass. But everybodyâs different. You definitely want high character, high basketball IQ guys.â Carey might be Pat's ideal type of player.

Carey had 14 points and 6 assists against us in 2017 (playing for Mt. St. Mary's). We won the game 102-68, so it was likely a pretty free-flowing, fast paced game. A Chris Sodom sighting.... I remember that game against Mount St. Mary's.

Good shooter, very good passer, decent ball handler. Very high IQ and character (from what Iâve heard).

Really nice pickup for the program. Two years of eligibility. Plays both guard positions well. Stabilizes the backcourt with veteran leadership in 2021-2022. Shout out to Jamorko Pickett with his first assist of the season in helping to get Don Carey's commitment! Any more detail on what Jamorko did? Jamorko Pickett has been working out with Don Carey at some of the DC private runs. I was told by someone who has attended these workouts that Carey made it known that he was working on graduating this summer and possibly transferring. I was also told that Carey discussed Georgetown with Pickett and his experiences playing for Coach Ewing. I'm told Carey made his desire to transfer official entering the transfer portal on July 10th and Pickett reached out to the staff at that point. The staff obviously did their homework from there and developed the relationship quickly. Here's a video of one their D.C. Private Runs...

By the way, you're my favorite Hoya on this team! I'm rootin' for you young brother!!
