Just saw that out of the 111 players competing, DaJuan Summers placed 10th in the recent NIKE All American Camp SPARQ Ratings. The goal of the SPARQ Basketball Rating is to give coaches, trainers and athletes the tools to assess the overall athleticism of a basketball player with tests that are designed to reflect the specific physical demands of the game. The SPARQ Rating is not designed or intended as a measure of basketball skills or an athlete's potential success on the court. SPARQ realizes that the intangibles of desire, hard work, teamwork and knowledge of the game all contribute to ultimate success in a complex skill sport like basketball. To learn more about the SPARQ Basketball Rating and compare SPARQ Ratings with teammates, training partners and competitors, go to www.sparqtraining.com. ssbasketball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=432081

It simply measures some aspects of athletic ability. It's isn't supposed to measure the complete basketball player, just one aspect.
By their measure, DaJuan was the tenth most athletic (mostly jumping, strength, speed and quickness) player at Nike.
Pretty self-explanatory.
Rivals also ranked DaJuan as a Top 15 Player at Nike (Didn't rank them, just gave Top 15).

Yeah, well, I don't care about those stupid scores. I care about what you do in the game. Can you play or can't you play? That is the question. That is real "test".

Then why are you posting on this thread? If you don't care, stop cluttering the board with your inane comments.

I think we all knew he was a pretty good and coveted BASKETBALL PLAYER when JTIII signed him.

Athletic ability is of paramount importance for basketball, IMHO. It should be measured, recorded, and set as a goal for improvement for all players at all levels.
Moreover, it is very important to have an idea of what type of athlete a player is when one is trying to determine how well that player will adapt to a higher level of play (i.e. HS to college or college to NBA). Many players are very skilled yet unable to compete well b/c they are held back by a lack of athletic prowess (i.e Drew Hall or Sead). Others may not be very skilled players but can step right in and play due to their athletic gifts (Boubacar Aw or a guy like Dwight Howard at the NBA level).
So, this information tells us that as Summers is one of the better athletes at Nike Camp, he will probably be athletic enough to be a fairly decent player in the Big East. To me-- although it must be taken with a grain of salt b/c 1) none of these tests are perfect and 2) all of these guys have lots of time to improve on their athletic ability before they ever set foot on a college floor-- it is a pretty good sign.

Once again, Mr. Summers was player of the year, as voted by the Baltimore Sun. I haven't see him personally, but he had a great year last year, as a junior. The paper had many great things to say about him based on his performance. It is great to hear that he is a great athlete, too. Can't wait for him to get to G'town.

1443 posts, and still no value. Actually - I have to disagree with you here, wholeheartedly. _way, while sometimes outlandish and, ahem, tempermental, actually brings a lot of insight to constructive arguments and debates that happen on this board all the time. While you might not necessarily agree with what he says, at least it's well thought-out and sparks debate. Unlike your useless post, which does nothing but puts down a member of this talk board probably so you can feel all big and mighty about yourself.

And now you've come in and politely put him down for putting someone down...way to go. In other news, YAY FOR DAJUAN SUMMERS AND GEORGETOWN!

Shouldn't quoting Bobby Knight mandate some kind of suspension on this board? I still remember watching him coach Texas Tech in the NIT against St. Johns and wondering what a GU TT match up would have been like for the championship . . .
