We all know this already, but as I read over our roster I was reminded that we have three seniors among our top six in the rotation heading into the season. When was the last time we had that? Especially seniors this good?
OK, one of the seniors is really a grad student, but who's quibbling?
Finally, some of you maybe thinking this will change as the freshmen work their way into the rotation. IF they do, great! If they are able to move ahead of any of the first six... the team will be stronger.
Senior leadership is really valuable in college ball and often underestimated with all the talk of early departures. A senior headed roster, with a year of JT3's system behind them and an OOC sched that looks like real college basketball!!! This is going to be one fun season!

I think we all remember the last time this happened:
2001: Ruben, AP, Eddie Lee and...the man that spawned a generation; Nat Burton.
That team was the last one to have more than two contributing seniors (it might be the only team in the last ten years to have more than two contributing seniors).
That's what makes this year so exciting. The leadership is there on the bench and on the floor. This Hoya team has the talent and the experience to win games.
Just get the season started already.

I've been a firm believer that strong senior teams have proven to be some of Georgetown's best.
For example:
1980 (Duren, Shelton, Dutch, Frazier--who returned in '81 for 5th year) 1982 (Floyd, E. Smith, Hancock) 1985 (Ewing, Martin, Dalton, --who returned in '86 for 5th year) 1989 (C. Smith, Jackson, Edwards, Winston) 1996 (Harrington, Williams)
Conversely, teams like 1993, 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2004 all lacked senior depth and the records reflected this. The exception to this is, of course, 1987, but that's just the exception.

Ed Spriggs was also a senior on the 1982 team. He was the indispensable wide body on the 1982 team.

Ed Spriggs was also a senior on the 1982 team. He was the indispensable wide body on the 1982 team. Good point. He also was a starter for several years, then graciously gave way to the freshman Ewing without a word of complaint or team discord. The original "Mailman"!

Ed always had time to talk to me outside of UNLV's north gym, whenever the Hoyas would take a trip out here. Nice guy!
