Based on what we've seen so far of him and what the "experts" say where do you all think Marc Edgerson fits into the team - he's probably not going to supplant Owens at the 3 - but he definitely gives us upgraded depth at that position. Is he the 7th man on the team as it stands now?

I don't know, but I wouldn't be so sure he doesn't supplant someone at some point.
BTW, it's Egerson. No d -- and pronounced "Egg-er-son".

I wouldn't even begin to figure out our rotation for next season. I think Sapp is going to push some of our guards in a major way. His numbers did not show it today, but he did well when he was asked to do something on the floor. He didn't take many shots, but, when he did, good things happened.
Right now, I think we have at least 9 game ready players, which is a good sign. Others will come around, and I think we'll have 11 guys who can run by the end of the year.

What 2 aren't you sure about? Thornton and Spann? Both are going to be good players for us, but I see them as less game ready than the others. Thornton has a great shot and will become a dead-eye shooter, but he does not know how to pick his spots and does not make the best decisions right now. The potential is there though, which is why I separated him out. I want to see Spann more. He is an efficient player, but he is slightly undersized in terms of weight, so I don't know where he is going to fit in with Bowman and Green leading the way in the frontcourt.

I think that Spann might be the one to watch of these freshmen - he's the real unknown - he will definitely be making a contribution to this team, but its too soon IMO to tell what season that will be in. Of the scholarship players on the bench only Sed will not be playing a major role in this team. Also it can be assumed that Beal, Izzo, and AKD will be seeing very limited playing time if any.

No offense to them of course, but its just rare they are mentioned for obvious reasons. I think AKD may have lost his 30 seconds-1.5 minutes every few games now that we have depth. I remember 2 years ago when he would play for like 8 minutes or so, man were we lacking frontcourt players then.

I agree with Spann - obviously this one iffy game isn't enough to discount him but I think he wil have trouble getting minutes.
Thornton does not have good shot selection and doesn't use his skills as well as he could - but I still think he'll be ready to play from day 1.

It's gonna be really interesting to see how point and wing minutes shake out over the next few years. Trying to predict minutes is difficult not only because we've seen most of these freshman compete maybe 3 or 4 times max, but also because theres some confusion about positions... Sapp and Thornton may be points or they may be shooting guards. Marc and Tyler may play 2 or 3... Spann might be a 3 or a 4... Heck even after 3 years there is still disagreement over whether or not Ashanti can play point successfully. We wont get the answers to these questions until later in the summer at the very least, most likely not until we're a few games into the season.
But if everyone comes around, we could be looking at Cook, Bowman, Owens, Sapp, Thornton, Egerson, Crawford and Spann contending for time at the 1-3 spots.... Thats a heck of a lot of depth... Unfortunately, 8 men split between 3 positions probably won't work. That's why I'm hoping someone (other than the seniors, who we know) will be a breakout star and the others will fall into complementary roles.
Somebody has to back up JW. It may be Jesse, may be Josh, or it may be Ashanti sliding to point and someone else playing 2. It seems like Josh may be getting groomed as a backup point, which would be good if it works. Sapp may spend some time there too. Figure Sapp will spend some minutes backing up both guard spots, with Marc getting some time backing up Ashanti and occasional minutes at 3. Spann may get a minute or two at the 4 spot based on the opponent and the foul situation for Jeff/Roy.
If I was to take a shot in the dark as to what our lineup of the future looks like, I'd guess that Jessie is the heir apparent to Ashanti's spot. Primarily a 2, but basically a combo who has some point skills. I'd also bet on Eggerson to inherit the startiing 3 spot vacated by Brandon/DJ. Jon will battle incoming Frosh Jeremiah Rivers (if he's as billed) for the starting point spot while Summers, PE Jr., Roy, and Jeff (assuming hes still here, fingers crossed) will split up the 4/5 minutes. Josh, Tyler, and Spann would fill in nicely as solid backups.
I think I'm getting ahead of myself... its easy to look toward the future though when our prospects seem to be so talented.

I don't want to count Amadou out, but I think that he is not as servicable as Jeff, Brandon Roy, or even Sed at the 5/4 positions - I hope he can improve and contribute to the team - but from what I saw last year he will only contribute minutes if we are in foul trouble in the post or need to rest people at the end of the half.

That may be, but I just think that Roy and Jeff and Sed (possibly, although i believe its splitting hairs to talk about Sed vs. Amadou because if they are in the game we're giving up a serious amount of offensive and defensive production due to fould or injury) all bring more to their post games than Amadou.
