We're going to go on a three and a half year undefeated streak - something like 94-0, only to be ended at Syracuse, 104-56.
How's that for a prediction, lic?

BE Play Break Down
Home:
Cincy - Win - We've played better teams during the OOC, have more depth, Cincy will be dealing with suspensions and a coach that doesn't have a contract.
Cuse - Win - We lost by a shoe-size when they had Warrick and we were on the road. No Warrick and the game's at MCI - see you all at center court when I storm it.
Pitt - Win - remember last year? - hahahahahaha
WVU - Loss - of Prov, SJU, WVU, and Rutgers there has to be a let down at home somewhere for this prediction to be serious - this is it.
Prov - Win - no gomes
Rutgers - win
SJU - win
South Florida - win - the bulls suck its just that simple
Away:
UConn - loss
DePaul - win
Marquette - win
Nova - loss
Notre Dame - loss
WVU - loss
SJU - win
South Florida - win
So put me down for 11-5

I wont make an official prediction because I never do and Im so superstititous that I'd think it was bad luck if I started now.
But I dont think we'll lose to WVU twice, we just seem to play well against that team, and I dont see them being nearly as hot as last year. Even though recent records can oftenbe meaningless, winning 9 of the last 10 against them is pretty convincing. So I would probably guess 1 more win.

The two losses against WVU are what we call hedging - i figured a 13-3 predicition would make me look foolish.

Good breakdown. My turn. AT MCI Cincy - defeat. Just have this sinking feeling. Cuse-victory. Should have beaten them up there last season. Now they are worse and the Hoyas are better. Nuff said. Pitt- Victory. No Taft. No Troutman. Probably no Krauser. No problem. WVU-Victory. That team got hot at the right team but they weren't a better team than GU last season. The Hoyas even won their one matchup. I expect Gtown and WVU to split games, each winning on their home court. Providence- Victory. Rutgers- Victory. The tradition continues. St John's -Victory. South Florida-Victory. AWAY from MCI UConn- Defeat. That could be a fantastic game. DePaul-Victory. Blue Demons regroup after losing their rising coach. Marquette-Defeat. There's always that game the Hoyas should win on the road but end up losing. Nova- Victory. I really like the team's chances in this game now that our quality and depth at the guard positions has been improved. Call me crazy. This will be our one huge upset win in conference play. Notre Dame-Defeat. Irish get us again. WVU-Defeat. St John's-Victory. The Hoyas BETTER win this one. Stop splitting with this team! South Florida- Victory Hey! 11-5 for me as well.

I think we are in violent diagreement on this one Buff as your 11-5 is so incredibly different from mine.

Put me down for an extremely non-analytical 10-6.

My $0.02
Home Games: Cincinnati: Loss. This is going to be an ugly, ugly game. Huggins' strategy will be for his goons to be extremely physical with Jeff and Roy in the paint, get them into foul trouble, etc. I also think we'll turn the ball over 20 times in this one.
Syracuse: Win. This is a revenge game, since we haven't played the 'Cuse since last season. We'll also be the better team unless some Syracuse freshman turns out to be the next Jeff Green.
Pitt: Win. Even with Krauser back, Pitt has become a team with no real sense of who or what it is. My gut feeling is that Pitt is due for another mediocre season, misses the tournament, and Dixon gets fired. We can beat a team like that on our home court.
WVU: Toss-up. I think this team did reach its peak in the NCAA tournament, but they'll be better than people think in the upcoming season because Coach Beilein is a true believer in his players. The 'eers went so far in the tournery last season because he got the players believing in themselves as well. I think we'll lose to this team in Morgantown (always a tough place to play). Whether we win at home will probably depend on outside "motivating factors." If we play WVU at home early in the season, before we play them in Morgantown, I think they will sneak up on the Hoyas. If we play them late with the tournament looming and the revenge factor going on, we'll win.
Providence: Win. Again, revenge factor comes into play because they embarrased us at home last season. PC also has a dearth of talent, and if last season is any indication the Tim Welsh era may be coming to an end.
Rutgers: Win. We have too much talent and Rutgers too little for us to lose this one at home.
St. John's: Loss. This is going to be a close game. I think the Johnnies are going to be the surprise of the Big East and play with a lot of heart (much like GU last season). The Johnnies win it with a three pointer at the buzzer. Also, it's inevitable we'll have one bad loss at home -- I'm just making my pick.
South Florida: Win. No explanation required.
Road Games: UCONN: Win. The majority of the team (and probably all of the starters) have played at Gampel before, and won't get intimidated if UCONN makes a run like last season. I like the matchups here, and I really want Jeff to beat his fellow co-ROY, Rudy Gay.
DePaul: Win. DePaul picked a bad season to enter the league. They don't have enough talent, motivation, or BE experience (still getting used to the new coach) to overcome the Hoyas.
Marquette: Win. The Hoyas, by now familiar with tough road arenas in the upper midwest, welcome the Warriors to the Big East by blowing them out at home. Back in Texas, AustinHoya drives his friends and family crazy by constantly saying "Waaarriooors...Come out to Playayay!" while watching the game.
'Nova: Toss up. Depends on whether 'Nova gets full of itself after last season's success/this season's hype and underperforms, or if Jay Wright can make them play like the team they are supposed to be. If they falter, and the Hoyas catch them while they are faltering, GU pulls off the upset. We also have a shot if injuries hamper the 'Cats again. If VU is healthy and playing at the top of its game I don't know if we can pull this one off.
Notre Dame: Win. JTIII can outcoach Brey any day of the week, plus we played fugly at ND last year. I think GU should pull this one off.
WVU: Loss. The 'eers are tough in Morgantown, and it will be the first trip there for a lot of our players. Rednecks wearing camo to a basketball game can be scary.
SJU: Toss up. Again, "motivating factors" come into play here. See the WVU at home explanation above.
S. Florida: Win. Again, no explanation required.
So, I guess I have the 05-06 Hoyas somewhere between 13-3 and 10-6. This is a tournament team either way, especially if we pull off some big OOC wins.

I just went back and checked last year's thread on this subject. Most of the posts predicted between 6 and 8 wins and were hoping to reach .500.
What a difference a year makes.

As the saying goes:
Coaches coach, players play, and referees referee (unless its UNC vs. Villanova, 2005).
We just have to play our best and the staff will have to coach its best. How the chips will fall? We have no idea. I think we can be good, I also think we can regress. I don't hope that. It depends on the mindset of the players. Anything is possible. I think we will be a better team than last year, and have the possiblity of making the NCAA tournament. I think if we don't get big-headed based on our success from last year and continue to work hard, we can make the Sweet Sixteen.

Tough to say, that's why they play the games.... but I like our chances against this group, I'll leave it at that.

I think it will be:
HOME: CINCI- W- they dont have alot of guys inside and the loss of Maxiell is going to hurt alot especially when BB, JGREEN, and Hibbert get at them. SYR-

SYR-W- redemption from last year- Hibbert comes out and plays even better than he did last year against them- no one inside that can stop him anymore with Forth out. PITT-W- Times are changing in the Big East, Pitt was the surprise team of the 90's not its GTOWNS turn to return to the top and it starts by beatin up on Pitt again. WVU- W-Gonna be a great matchup between Jeff and Kevin- I think Gtown edges them out at the end. I think the main piece in this game is Roy, with D'ore gone, he can dominate inside. PROV- W- But very close game, even though they lost Gomes, they have an incomin freshman who can play the game pretty well. Rutgers- W- Game wont even be close. We dominate from the start. Are better at every position than them. ST.JOHNS-W- Another payback from last year. Lets just run them out of the gym. They put the nail in the coffin last year when we lost to them. SOUTH FLORIDA- W-............
AWAY UCONN- L-The biggest game of the big east season I think- we left alot up their last year when we came out of the gates and played fairly well and kept up but tailed off at the end. I think its even the whole game, but it goes down hill at the end. DEPAUL-W- Guards should come out in this game- they are very thin at the 1,2 so cook, owens, and wallace should handle this team alone. MARQUETTE-W- Team is going down hill. Loss of their two best players is really going to hurt them with their first season in the BE. We come out in this game and BB takes over. VILLA-W- Won their last year and even though Vill will come out with vengeance, we still hold them off for a 5 point win. The main player in this game I think is BB and Jeff's rebounding. ND- W- We have been waiting for a win in South Bend for a long time and this is the year. They are going to miss Thomas and Gtown takes this one. Cook should lead the team to victory in this one. WVU-L- Took a win at home against this team, but Morgantown is roudy and this place will be rockin. They win this game because of home court advantage, not because they are a better team. ST.JOHNS- L- Agan we travel up to NYC and again we return with a loss. NYC is not our place to play. We just dont show up again and we get a loss. SOUTH FLORIDA-W-.............
Last year, we were the road warriors and we could not be defeated on the road this year the exact opposite. I think we go throughout the total BE schedule without a loss at home and then go on the road and play solid and get a few losses. I think we finish 13-3 and finish the season 20-7 and either win the ILLINI game or DUKE game.

We will not regress. JT3 will simply not let that happen. Of that I'm 100% confident. The guy is a legit coach.
I'm not totally confident in Ashanti Cook though. I just don't see him getting that much better, which worries me a decent amount. I'm also not totally confident that we'll be able to get our scoring droughts totally out of our system this year... yet.
However, put this prediction in your pipes and smoke it: I will personally do one lap around the Hoyatalk board in my birthday suit if we don't make the tournament.
