Never having played beyond a recreational level, I am not a big Xs and Os guy. I recognize certain concepts but my knowledge is not very deep. I am starting this thread for those who want to learn and converse more specifically about Xs and Os.
So I’ve continued listening to the Big Game Podcast - the guys who broke down Hoyas vs. Texas a few weeks ago and heard them talking about ‘continuity ball screen’ offense and ‘movers & blockers’ offense. I pulled up their Youtube videos to watch and learn a little more.
Here are the videos if you are interested:
Continuity Ball Screen
‘Movers & Blockers’. - (UVA’s offense)
I need to look again a little more closely but I think I recognize some continuity ball screen concepts in the Hoyas movement.
The primary reason for my post is that I am a bit surprised we haven’t seen the flair screen concept from movers and blockers with Mac and Yurt. If Yurt set a flair screen for Mac it would seem that Mac would have an easy path for a dunk/alley oop or that Yurt would be wide open for a 3. Defenses would have to pick their poison. Have I just missed it? Has anyone noticed the Hoyas doing this? It looks like it would be a powerful concept to implement.
For those who are Xs and Os proficient/experts, I would be interested in hearing more about what you see the Hoyas or their opponents doing.

Check out Coach Nick / Bball Breakdown on youtube as well if you are interested. It's NBA, but it's good stuff if you are interested in X's and O's. There's a Lakers Film Room that is really Lakers, but very good as well.

PE has Gtown play a lot out of Horns sets, as SF stated BBall breakdown has clips of what to look for...
I'd like to see them utilize Y7 out of these sets similar to what Michigan State does with their bigs in this clip...
Note too how the MSU players don't give up their dribbles when they get the pass, good stuff...

Pretty much just rolling the ball out there at this point, see who wants to play

Pretty much just rolling the ball out there at this point, see who wants to play I disagree. It was more of that at the beginning of the season. The last two games we have see a more precise offense.

As a pair based off the last two games, we are looking to replace: 28 min 5 pts 9 reb 1 ast .5 blk per game Looks like the 9 rebounds per game between the two will be the most challenging stat to replace. Obviously Alexander and Gardner have much more talent at this point then the guys on the bench - but this is essentially what we need to replace moving forward based off their limited stats without JA/JL. Gardner’s on-ball defense will also be missed-but for now we need two guys who can play a combined 28-30 min a game, chip in a few points, and hit the glass. Makes me think Malcolm Wilson will spell Pickett. Curious who the guard will be and their current skill set
