From GUHoyas.com:
"Georgetown enters the 2005-2006 facing a newly expanded BIG EAST Conference. Head Coach John Thompson III enters his second season at Georgetown with all starters from last year's 19-13 (NIT) squad, including the scoring/rebounding tandem of Brandon Bowman (15.3 points, 6.1 rebounds) and BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Year Jeff Green (13.1 points, 6.6 rebounds). A BIG EAST schedule which includes 10 games with conference opponents who appeared in post season play will certainly offer GU a challenging opportunity.
Georgetown's home slate will include Cincinnati (25-8 NCAA), Syracuse (27-7 NCAA), Pittsburgh (20-9 NCAA) and West Virginia (24-11 NCAA). The Hoyas also host Providence, Rutgers, St. John's and South Florida.
The Hoyas will travel to Connecticut (23-8 NCAA), DePaul (20-11 NIT), Marquette (19-12 NIT), Villanova (24-8 NCAA) and Notre Dame (17-12 NIT), as well as West Virginia (24-11 NCAA), St. John's and South Florida.
Louisville and Seton Hall are not on this year's schedule.
Times and dates for games have not yet been finalized. "

Our mirror teams are thus South Florida, St. John's and West Virginia.
Let the complaining begin!

Seems very middle of the road.
We miss one top team (UL) and one bottom feeder (Hall). We play one bottom feeder twice (USF), one middle of the road twice (SJU) and one tourney team (WVU) twice.
We get Cuse, Cincy and Pitt at home but have to travel to UConn and Nova (and ND).
We dodge the Rac and Providence away -- but have to travel to the midwest three times.

I have a feeling the mirror school determination was more geographically based than competitive/rivalry based. I anticipated VU, SFLA and WVU or Pitt...
OTOH, the Nova boards were circulating rumors/supposed comments from Jay Wright that the mirror schools were indeed based on prospective outcomes in the standings....

This happens in the NFL. I'm quite sure Syracuse and UCONN will mirror each other., or Cincianatti and Louisville will mirror. Its a way of balancing the league in terms of W-L. The recent succesful teams will have harder schedules or mirror opponents across the board, and the not-so-recent successful teams will have lower-tier mirror games.

I would have like to play L-Ville...
I can't believe they took away our rivalry with Cuse.
I don't like our mirror teams really, but could have been worse. WV will be good and we get to play in the Garden again.

Well, I'm glad that Cuse is at home. It's always fun to see the Orange at MCI - certainly better than in front of 30,000 at the Carrier Dome. Could be better, could be worse, I suppose. With Duke coming to MCI, and with a host of tough road games, we didn't need a killer BE schedule.

Our mirror teams are thus South Florida, St. John's and West Virginia. Let the complaining begin! No complaints. I would take Syracuse, Nova, or Notre Dame twice in place of WVU and especially South Florida. But at least St. John's is included (we NEED to beat the Johnnies twice this year---no split) which is a legit rivalry. And WVU is not only a good program but they are nearby as well. Plus their fans despise the Hoyas so its all good.

I'm happy we get 'Cuse at home. I want to see the Hoyas beat the ^&%$^% Orange before I graduate. Though I bet they schedule it in the middle of winter break or something, so that no one gets to go, like UCon last year.
And if our conference schedule is easier than most, we'll have a lot better chance at a good seed in the BE tournament. So we just need to take care of business, and win the games we should, and collect our high seed in the tournament and make it to the weekend for the first time in a looong time.

Yeah, I just get a bad feeling thinking about the 5,000-7,000 or so Orange in the seats at MCI 2 years ago.

The solution to that problem is pretty simple - start selling tickets to that game to the DC area NOW.

Anyone want to go to the Depaul, Marquette, and ND games? I'm pretty excited! Drinks at my place before the game at the Horizon (Allstate Arena for those not in the know)...

Will Mrs. Formerhoya kindly drive us over to the Horizon? If yes, can we stretch it to having Mrs. Formerhoya also drive us to the Joyce and Bradley Centers? Those of us in the Chicago area have the chance to see up to 4 regular season games in person, without having to fly to DC, which is fantastic for us. We could not have asked for a better BE road schedule from a fan's standpoint. Cross your fingers for the U of I game being up here at the United Center, as well, rather than Champaign. I think there would be a better chance of that happening if the game occurs over Christmas Break.

I'm not as negative on this BE schedule as most are. With our OOC schedule, we cannot afford to have too many home and homes with the Louisvilles of the BE. WVU and SJU are two middle-range teams that are respectable opponents. SFLA is not the worst team in this BE. We don't play the worst team, so I'll take it. Also recognize that we will be going on a major road trip out in the midwest with ND, DePaul, and Marquette. That's a tough assignment and will be respected by the Committee. If you look at our home slate, we drew quite a few teams that travel well, like SU, Cincy, and Pitt, to say nothing of WVU.

Tough overall slate. Some will be killed by their schedule in conference, but we won't be- it will afford us enough opportunity to make our mark while playing a tough OOC sched.
I worry about getting overloaded but hopefully the guys are working hard and improving and the froshes will come along quickly!
