According a Post article, that is. Do we still have a chance to get Thomas? I think these 2 guys would make Rutgers a lot better.

Please say this isn't true.

"We were all talking about going to Rutgers -- me, Derrick Caracter and Earl Clark, and trying to build something," Thomas, a 6-8 forward for St. Benedict's Prep, said at ABCD Camp yesterday. "We're going to seek that option out." "We have so much talent (in New Jersey)," Thomas continued, "that if everybody stays, in another two years, I know we'll be playing for the national championship."

How good are these guys? I have heard of Caracter but not Thomas.
As long as top talent is going to the Big East, I'm happy.

If they show up at Rutgers, that would make their fan base even more unbearable than they already are.
It's amazing what one recruiter can do. Nothing has changed about Rutgers, but Fred Hill apparently can spin.

Ok, so basically neither of them have actually decided to go anywhere.

Long way from being done. By almost all accounts, Nova leads for Earl Clark, and Memphis is the odds on leader for Caracter. I'd love to get Thomas (he's a top 40 player), but we never really seemed to get much traction with him. Arizona is believed to be his leader.
Rutgers new assistant Fred Hill (formerly of Nova) has already paid some dividends in getting involved with some really good Jersey talent. But they're a long way from landing any of these guys, and they're not the favorite for any. Also, Clark and Caracter have rumblings about academic issues. Rutgers will be celebrating this article, I'm sure, but they're still Rutgers and that pretty much means they'll be crushed in the end.

RBHoya has been high on Thomas if I remember correctly... RDF said something about walking on water if we landed him. That said, good for Rutgers if they can land one or all three of these guys...

Highly unlikely that Rutgers will get either one of these guys. Still having Fred Hill aboard will help in the lkong run with recruiting.
The Hoyas aren't probabaly recruiting Thomas all that much anymore. Once Summers committed the Hoyas got their talented multi position forward for this class. Summers is rising further up the list in the estimation of these recruiting gurus and I believe he had a better showing at the NBA Camp two weeks ago than Lance Thomas. The Hoyas main concern now is a big man who can play the 4 and the 5 (unlike Summers who has a big build but plays the 3 and the 4).

I was high on Lance for a while, based on an article GUHoya2007 sent me that showed that he really had character. He's a hard worker in addition to a really talented athlete. He's interested in majoring in engineering, which shows that he's pretty serious about academics, and which may or may not have been a factor in his apparent choice not to come to GU. I would like to see us start recruiting better in NJ though. Supposedly Arizona is the frontrunner for him, but I heard that all of their scholarships might be used up, because they had made offers to some other guys who were gonna commit while Lance was dragging his feet. A lot of people also seem to think they are high on Thomas' list, especially the Nova fans. I think the truth is that Lance is still really not sure what he wants to do, which is so many teams think they have a good shot at him.
Summers might end up being as a good a player or better than Thomas, and once III really made it clear that Summers was top priority, our shot at Lance sorta disintegrated. Hopefully he does end up coming to the BE though.
As for Thomas and Caracter both going to Rutgers, I'd be pretty amazed if it were true. I mean, I know Fred Hill is a great recruiter and spin doctor, but I'm amazed that ANYONE could convince 2 top 30 players to come to RU. I mean I'm glad they're staying in the conference, but Rutgers is an absolute hole IMO.

Yeah I watched that game with Caracted playin against Oak Hill and I was all ready to see the next big thing coming down the court thinking maybe this is the next Al Jefferson. But, the guy just played terrible, he was huffing coming up the court everytime, looked so outta shape it wasnt even funny. I thought this couldnt be the guys I was watchin the game for. Turns out it was, and it seemed like he wasnt even the best player on the team. I think hes another bust, but thats just my perspective. I think he could be another Shav who came into college with so much potential and came out with no hope. But talkin about Shav, just to tell the whole board, he is going to be in Phila for its trainin camp i read the other day. Ill say one thing, I still think he got potential and hes still workin his butt off, so better late than never, i guess...?
