WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I AM JUST NOW STARTING THIS THREAD! BOOOOOO!
Anyway, congratulations to Mary and her family on a long overdue honor. I'm sure Pops would concur.

Glad the thread is here but it was a mistake to start it and say nothing about what she was recognized for, who she was or to provide a link. "THE GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT celebrated one of its most seminal figures on Thursday night [11/14] as longtime men’s basketball academic coordinator MARY FENLON was inducted into the ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME. Fenlon was the first hire made by Hall of Famer John Thompson Jr., when he took over the men’s basketball program in 1972. With just three assistant coaching positions permitted, Thompson hired two assistants to focus on basketball and one to handle academics – and that one was Mary Fenlon." www.guhoyas.com/news/2019/11/16/mens-basketball-fenlon-inducted-to-athletics-hall-of-fame.aspxMy father worked with her frequently in the mid-70's and held her in the highest respect. He always left the impression that she was one of the pillars of success in the Hoyas program.

Some of the confusion in he thread reflects the fact that the press release followed two days after the ceremony itself. Secondarily, Fenlon has been retired from the department for 20 years and her impact on the program isn't as well known to recent fans.
Her service to the University deserves our recognition and that of the Department of Athletics.

Per Lonnie Harrell, rest in peace Mary Fenlon. I'm glad Georgetown was able to honor her last month by inducting her in the Georgetown Athletics Hall of Fame.

Mary Fenlon was an integral part of the growth of the basketball program, and John Thompson’s decision to hire her was as important as anything else he did at Georgetown; his success was due to her tireless efforts on behalf of the academic side of the program. Requiescat in pace, Mary.

I recall her speaking to the campers at JT II basketball camp circa 1990. Incredible presence. One of the most important people ever to Hoya basketball. RIP

Hope that she is recognized with a moment of silence in her memory at the game on Tuesday.

Others have said it eloquently here. Mary's importance as an off-court presence in the evolution of Hoya basketball cannot be overestimated. Can't help but think that we could use a 21st century version of her today. RIP.

I was not aware that Mary and I lived in the same city, at least for some of her last days. If I were still in Las Vegas, I would have attended her funeral. She was important for the program and the stat of 97% graduation rate shows how well she did her job. May she rest in peace.

Indeed may she rest in peace. Her death is a real loss to the foundation of the academic and athletic partnership of Georgetown basketball. Very sad.
