Per the Colgate web site, the 2005 Sun Bowl Tournament will feature UTEP, Georgetown, Colgate, and Mississippi Valley State. The schedule still says "tentative", though. (OK, it's a 650 mile drive to the west, but it's still Texas.) athletics.colgate.edu/MBasketball/schedule.htm

We better win that. UTEP had a decent team, IIRC, but that should be two wins and out.

This tournament is a nice addition to the schedule. It gives us a couple more respectable, if not great (by any means) games on the road in a tournament environment. Good work. I hope that by some miracle the games are available on TV.

Good tournament for RPI purposes potentially. 2 road wins helps at the end of the year. Must win for obvious reasons. Unreal amount of road games though. Wow. Tickets are going to cheap this year...

I guess there really aren't any out of conference home games this year.

These would be a neutral court, right? Unless maybe we play UTEP.

These would be a neutral court, right? Unless maybe we play UTEP. Pretty sure we will be on the other side of the bracket. We have to be the other marquee team. We'll play Colgate or MVS first...and then move on to the winner/loser of the UTEP game.

Right. So the 250 RPI game will be neutral, and the 150 RPI game will either be neutral or away.

When did the Sun Bowl start putting on a basketball tournament - I thought that the Bowl wasn't making enough money as it was. But this is a nice edition to the MASSIVE AWAY SCHEDULE that III is putting together. These are 2 games in Texas and that is good for recruiting - so I can't complain there. I guess we'll get to see the Fairfield game and then wait for Big East play to start - not that I can complain though - El Paso is only a 10 hour drive away from Tulsa.

Right. So the 250 RPI game will be neutral, and the 150 RPI game will either be neutral or away. Actually, UTEP was ranked 35 in RPI last year, but I'm not sure if that's the game you're talking about...

I didn't realize UTEP's RPI was so high. Maybe my assumption that we should win is faulty. Of their Top 7 in scoring and minutes, three were seniors last year, including their Top 2. But the other four were juniors, so they will be a veteran club. But I'm guessing not quite as good. Hard to beat a 7-man rotation of 3 seniors and 4 juniors. EDIT: Apparently, one of those rising seniors transferred out: www.utepathletics.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=10340&SPID=637&DB_OEM_ID=2100&ATCLID=129450

According to the Tulsa World's offseason preview of Conference USA they are supposed to win the league and the tournament. This is definitely not going to be an easy game. I believe they also have a pretty large body in the middle.

I'll go if we can all go to Juarez before and after the game.

I dont think UTEP will beat out Memphis for Conf USA but they are top 2 in that conference. They did lose 2 of their player to the draft but they were not chosen but they were worthy of a 2nd round pick. They were very strong last year and I believe that they got knocked out by Utah last year in the NCAA tourney first round. They gave Bogut and the Utes a run for their money so a UTEP Gtown matchup will be a good one.
