It's almost like Christmas Eve! That bike shaped present could be anything!
Get out in transition, pound the ball to Yurt in the half court, own the boards, play tough D. If we can do this starting from game 1, we will all be happy.

Would personally love to see a frontline of josh, jamarko, and Omer go off. I don’t worry too much about our guards. They always get theirs.
A little fullcourt press would be nice as well.

Mt. St. Mary's Coach played high school basketball in the DMV at Whitman with my brother
Looks like their best player was a 6'0 freshman PG Vado Morse.
Their center is 6'9" and seems like he had a good freshman campaign shooting ~60% from the field, and the 47th best offensive reboundign rate and a 3/6% block rate. They have two 6'8" guys who play as well and a 6'10" guy who barely saw the court as a sophomore. So more height that the average midmajor.
They only had one senior last year, so should be improved, but still one of the easiest games on the schedule so should win big.

With the assumption of a win, i look forward to seeing how Pat works out the rotation heading into the season.
If there is an individual guy to focus on, it's Pickett. If he starts at the 3... will he be able to take advantage of his size (MSM SF is 6'3) or will he just be out-quicked?
Sooner or later that length needs to work in his favor on the offensive end.

I know there will be a little loose play in the opener, but really hope we can limit the sloppy passing. Not easy to play with discipline when you are trying to play up tempo but we can't toss away possessions in January and February (and especially in March) so let's be focused from the opening tip.

I am noticing a lot of predictions in the Oracle thread that have MSM in the 70s or even higher. I even gave them 69 myself. Our defense will not be much improved if we let this team get that ,any points, so I am hoping that I and those other posters are just having pre-season jitters when I fact the team is ready to hold The Mount under 50 pats and under 40% from 2, 30% from 3. Those percentages should be our gold standard all year long defensively.

First game of the season against a taller-than-you-think lineup with a good bit of experience is probably causing some inflation. Added to the fact that anytime you’re running and gunning the other team will have more points simply because of an increased number of possessions. I’m more interested in our defensive efficiency than raw points given up after we get a few games under our belts this season. FYI, Bart Torvik shows us as having been 18th in adjusted tempo last year.

As much as we can bemoan the computer models, scoring margin matters every game. Have to dominate these teams to minimize the damage they do to the overall computer profile.
Interested in the guard rotation, I think we'll see 3 guard lineups w Mosely or Allen sliding up against a smaller team to match their quickness for stretches.

If we are up big, PLAY THE SUBS and ****** Skynet and the computers!!!!!

At a minimum, a 10 point win is important for NET ratings. More than 10 points helps, but has less of a benefit. Playing the subs to at least a 10 point win seems like a reasonable hope for the games the Hoyas are expected to win.

Even against a team that the Hoyas should beat easily there will be plenty to watch. As this season begins, as always I have hopes that may often exceed reality. While every one of the returnees has an area where improvement is clearly needed and necessary if this team will be playing in the tournament in March, I am particularly hopeful for successful seasons for three players who showed loyalty and commitment to the program despite some tough times: Mosley, Pickett and Blair. Each could have left. None did. Really wanting the breakout year for each of them. Also hope that Yurtseven is rewarded for his patience and hard work in taking a year off to learn from Ewing.
