"He'll do whatever it is his coaches ask him to do"....Like Akinjo? If you read up the thread a page or two we discussed this already. Harris has to score on his high school team because he’s the primary scoring option. On his AAU team he was in a pass first role.

"He'll do whatever it is his coaches ask him to do"....Like Akinjo? So is every guard that we recruit that can put the ball in the basket going to be compared to "7 game sophomore year Akinjo"? I'm thinking of starting a new prediction thread with an over/under line on the date when we will collectively "just f'n let it go!".

Who knew the level of trauma Akinjo inflicted upon the fanbase?

Dante will have to find his role in the team....like all new players.
Point guards who score can also assist. Sharkey from Samford average 9.5 assists per game and 17.5 points.
I think you have to use the eyeball test and see to what extent the player is looking to create for others vs. hunting his own shot. I think continued over-dribbling is a red flag.

Like mentioned above, he absolutely has to score the basketball for his team. The only way a high school guard is getting recruited to D1 without scoring a ton of points is if he plays in a very highly competitive league against other D1 prospects. I would be more concerned if Dante was only scoring 15-20 against his competition. From the limited reading available he sounds like a good, coachable kid and I’m excited to see what he develops into. He is already being coached by a really good former PG, so he may be more game ready than we might expect

No matter who else Patrick reels in at PG, he is not going to be Terrell Allen - especially a freshman. In his 5 games as starter, Allen has been the best PG we've had in years.
Pat desperately needs another freshman guard or even two, but the team would be even better off he can also land an accomplished Post Grad. I think we are all hoping for that.
Whoever starts at the point next year, we can't expect him to duplicate Allen's impact. He will be sorely missed, as will Yurtseven. Next year's team will start with Mac, then add Pickett (hopefully with a Mosely like tansition to SR Year), Blair and a rapidly developing Wahab.
That is a solid core despearetly in need of depth. Glass half full? Our roster is wide open for kids who can contribute - freshmen, decommits, transfers, grad transfers... wherever coach and staff can continue to find them!
But right now, we have one more game until the REAL season begins. Our most hopeful outlook in years. Hoping everyond had a merry Christmas and that we all have a Happy Hoya New Year!

Ewing and the coaching staff needs to really pull the rabbit out of the hat with a couple of transfers and or grad transfers. Yurt and Allen should be the standard.

"He'll do whatever it is his coaches ask him to do"....Like Akinjo? That's not the norm. Most kids don't buck their coach. There's nothing that suggests he's not coachable in fact there's much evidence that the opposite is true.

This sounds like when Otto was in HS. The competition is not good so he is just blowing teams away on his own and not even playing the majority of the game.

Maybe he will be Ewing's Jonathan Wallace. I would love a four year guy who commits to his coach & will play the right way.

Lots of pressure to put on a freshman, asking him to assume PG responsibilities day one.

3 consecutive posts referencing Porter, Mac, and Jonathan Wallace. What could possibly go wrong?
All kidding aside, he does look like he has a good amount of potential. Hopefully the shooting translates, that in and of itself would be value for next season

TKA shot lights out, making five straight 3-pointers at one point in the first quarter, to stake out to a 15-point halftime lead over the Lions. However, Lakeway would not go away, cutting the lead to two in the fourth quarter and having a chance to tie the game. But Lakeway’s Dante Harris, despite a 39-point performance, could not get the tying shot to fall as the Lions fell to TKA 68-64. “We didn’t deserve to win that game,” Lakeway coach Curtis Staples said. “We came out in the first half and played absolutely no defense and didn’t play with effort. We dug ourselves a hole early in the game and unfortunately, we couldn’t get out of it.” www.citizentribune.com/sports/local/lakeway-comeback-falls-short-in---loss-to-tka/article_e15cfb72-33c5-11ea-a720-fb57cd9bec6c.htmlLakeway trailed by 11 going to the fourth quarter, but Harris took over early. Harris scored eight straight for the team and had the lead down to 66-64 with 1:18 remaining. Lakeway even got a turnover on the ensuing inbounds pass but multiple missed shots spoiled their opportunity. Harris was the team leader with 39 points, but just five other players scored for the Lions and one other, Ben Knight, who had 10 points, in double figures. “It’s extremely important to get Dante going, especially with his abilities, but it’s not all on him,” Staples said. “Other players need to play their role and play their part and play with more energy. That was one thing that was really disappointing. We’re at home, we have the fan base here and yet we come up with a lackluster performance in the first half.”
