A story that had no comment or investigation into the stands taken by Georgetown, GW, American, Howard, George Mason, Catholic, or Maryland's law schools. It's almost as if the word "Washington" on the masthead doesn't matter anymore to these reporters.

As someone who has spent his whole professional career as an insurance lawyer, let me tell you, Florida is . . . special.

"Columbia and NYU Would Lose $327 Million in Tax Breaks under Proposal" - NY Times www.nytimes.com/2023/12/10/nyregion/columbia-nyu-property-tax-exemptions-legislation.html Curious to get thoughts on this. Didn't know exactly where to put this but considering the prospect of having to pay property taxes and other exemptions being taken that may affect how they operate and possibly affecting their rankings (close enough connection). Also saw other articles on the matter at a more nation-wide perspective such as ASU using their tax exempts to lease property to private companies to help them skirt taxes too while making money themselves and Yale not having a great connection with New Haven residents knowing they could help the public schools there so much but decide not to pay more PILOTs, all while utilizing city services. time.com/5952901/universities-tax-exemption/

Georgetown #12 A degree from an elite university doesn’t guarantee success. But in U.S. society, success is a good indicator you went to an elite university. TIME and Statista analyzed the resumés of 2,000 top leaders in the U.S.—politicians, CEOs, union leaders, Nobel winners, and more across sectors—to assemble a list of the universities and colleges where they received their degrees. time.com/collection/best-colleges-for-future-leaders/

Of course I like seeing GU at 12 (and arguably tied for 10th), but any ranking for “leadership” that has Arizona State at 20 and West Point at 44 seems suspect. Arizona State acquired the Thunderbird Graduate School of Management in 2014, which in the days before every school offered an MBA was a major brand for global business leadership. West Point produces great leaders but fewer of them end up in the private sector where this survey predominates. The methodology does not suggest a lot of deep thinking on the survey--make a list of CEO's and write down where they got degrees from.

Meanwhile, at GW: "At least seven of GW’s graduate schools and programs fell in U.S. News & World Report’s national ranking of graduate and law schools this year. GW Law dropped to No. 41 in the rankings, a 16-spot drop over the past two years, and the School of Nursing’s master’s degree program is unranked this year after being ranked No. 19 last year. Eight of the nine schools corresponding to graduate school categories remained within the top 100 rankings on the list compared to last year...GW Law Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew responded to the rankings in a University release Tuesday, saying the rankings provide only a “snapshot” in analyzing schools." "The Graduate School of Education and Human Development dropped from No. 58 last year to No. 76 this year, tying with Loyola Marymount University Los Angeles and the University of Oklahoma. GW’s public affairs program fell to six spots to No. 16, ranked alongside Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Georgetown University, Georgia State University and the University of California-Los Angeles. The program rose to No. 10 in 2023, up from No. 12 in 2022. The School of Business dropped from No. 59 last year to No. 62 this year, with its international business program falling from No. 8 last year to No. 9 this year." gwhatchet.com/2024/04/11/law-school-graduate-programs-fall-in-national-rankings/
