Meanwhile, Georgetown's other basketball team finished 5-25 this season and no one seemed to care.
Attendance? 494 a game.

I mean, I care, at least insofar as their poor performance is making my prediction that the Thompson Athletic Center would bring them up into the nationally competitive ranks look pretty dumb... Coaching counts for a lot, and I don't see much evidence that James Howard is a particularly good coach...

Seems like we've just given up here (or have for a while). TWF was just a random stroke of good luck.

No news release, but the game notes for the season opener reports that the entire senior class for Georgetown women's basketball has opted not to play in 2020-21, citing COVID. A grad transfer is out due to visa issues. James Howard has a total of two (2) players that were even on the team last year. s3.amazonaws.com/guhoyas.com/documents/2020/12/17/GAME01_121920.pdf

Not certain what has happened with this program. While never a powerhouse in the BE, the collapse of this program has been dramatic and shocking for those of us who follow the women's team from the outside. More so than the men's program, which at least has had some moments of hope even in the chaos of last year. Time for the Administration to decide if it wants to field a competitive women's team and address whatever factors have caused this program to fall so far so fast.

Seems that Gtwn has 3 or 4 first rate programs out of 29--Men's and womens soccer, sailing and maybe track(historically great, recently not so good, but new coach and top recruits maybe we will see a renaissance). Mens & womens Lax sightly below, but probably underperform in big picture.
1)I think that the way we hire coaches across the programs seems pretty sub optimal--go for lowest cost option by promoting internal assistants. 2)No real performance objectives or accountability across all programs- 3)questionable resource allocation among programs--resource allocation largely historical, not based on supporting sports where we have competitive advantages to compete at national level--we don't really benchmark prrograms vs peeer universities BE outside of mens baketball really not peer univ's

Looks like the SID has opted out as well.

And yet, the Hoyas just beat Butler for the first time in 4 years, 56-45.

Williams-Fluornoy fired by Auburn. Would be a good move for this program to try to get her back. It’s not working with Howard.

Final from the first round of the Big East women's tournament: Creighton 56, Georgetown 42.
Hoyas shot 29% for the game but were within two with 8:24 to play. Creighton ends the game on a 17-5 run.

Have to think it would be quite a pay cut to go back to Georgetown after earning $750,000 a year on the Plains No inside info, but her departure might have not been well received, given that she had signed a contract renewal two years earlier. Georgetown doesn't like to see itself as a way station to better jobs. Auburn will pay her out for the remaining two years on her contract so that's a $1.5M check and depending on the terms she might have to sit it out to claim the amount.

With the exception of the position of men's head basketball coach, hasn't it been true that the Hilltop has in fact been a way station to better jobs? And while I appreciate that she may not be willing to accept a payout after what she earned at Auburn, she may not find a comparable salaried position elsewhere at a Power 5 school based upon her won-loss record over the past few years.
