Kidd may have been a good player, but after his microfacture surgery its pretty clear that he's lost a step defending the drive.

But Kidd is not known as a great defender. All-Defensive First or Second Team, Jason Kidd: 1998-1999 1999-2000 2000-2001 2001-2002 2002-2003 2003-2004 2004-2005 Say he's overrated if you like. Say that only you have the power of evaluating players, as you always do. But apparently the NBA views Kidd as a great defender, enough that he has made the All-Defensive Teams for a quite a few years now. You wouldn't be interested, because it involves stats and analysis and factual evidence, but St. Pete might -- when Kidd went to the Nets, John Hollinger did a great breakdown showing that the Nets' offense didn't improve much at all. But their defense did.

On second thought, I'd love to get Sweets back in DC. At least he'd have a chance at the playoffs (presuming they keep Hughes).
That's all I got. This might be the most boring day in HoyaTalk history.

But their defense did. The Nets defense would improve when you got Aarron Williams, a healthy Kenyon Martin, and a healthy Kerry Kittles on your team. Those guys can play defense. Kidd is not that great of a defender. Your all-defensive references are misleading. Some guys are put on there for good reasons others get put on there based on a reputation that they haven't earned. Take for example Kobe Bryant. Kobe was not the greatest defender in the world nor was he a defensive stopper. Yet, he was placed on all-defensive teams. The same goes for Larry Hughes this year. He led the league in steals, but he wasn't a great defender. I watched 90% of Wizards games this year. He still got lit up for points a lot of times this year. KG was on all-defensive teams. Is KG known for being a lock-down, shot-altering defender? No he is not. Do people think twice going into the lane where KG is? No they don't. So to simply refer to all-defensive lists is erroneous. The Glove, GP was a good defender. Ron Artest is a great defender. Rodman was a great defender. Joe Dumars was a great defender. You have never seen Jason Kidd locking down or making his opponent struggle on the offensive end. Sure he got his steals. But that doesn't mean he is a great defender. Shoot, Speedy Claxton had his way with Kidd in the NBA finals. But you didn't hear "Kidd was taken to task by Claxton". No you didn't. See, you fail to realize Jason Kidd is a media darling. So he gets all the credit in the world and is protected for his shortcomings as a player. Granted, I think Kidd is a good player. But the fact of the matter is he is overrated. And if you want team unity and not team mutiny, if you want a winning attitude, if you want somone who doesn't undermine their coaches, Jason Kidd is not someone you want on your team.

Haywood is a center. And you know what you getting with him. If Haywood maximizes his potential to the fullest, you will always get a solid starter in this league, but nothing spectacular. Haywood tries hard, but you don't expect a whole lot of him. With Sweets the talent is there. The discipline isn't with regard to his weight and he is not the most assertive. You are getting another Kwame minus the headaches and temper tantrums. With Sweets, if he doesn't change his approach to the game, he will always be untapped potential.

Sweets is better in NY. The Wiz are going to have some tough holes to fill with Hughes gone and even though Kwame is a punk, that costs them too.
