I definitely do not expect Chet to come to the Hilltop, but what's the harm in having hope? This is a one-and-done guy for sure, why not spend that year under Ewing? He likes Patrick. If I'm not mistaken, in one of his recruiting interviews Patrick was the only coach he said anything about on a personal level --- about him being such a great guy, and being full of wisdom --- who you can just call up and talk to like a regular guy.
Again, I don't expect we get him. Good news is, Georgetown is starting to make some waves. A Georgetown commitment from these guys is going against the grain, and would mean you've chosen a different path than what's expected of you. Maybe it's just me, but kids seem to slowly be leaning towards blazing their own path on the recruiting trail these days. Aminu is also here, and some solid other pieces. I think that, and Coach Ewing means we have a dark horse shot at Chet. And if not Chet, it seems like Georgetown is trying to work their quiet magic on Baldwin. The Kaiden Rice commitment is proof Georgetown doesn't operate like other teams. Was there anyone who had even heard Georgetown being linked to Kaiden!?

Chet has been my #1 dream recruit for the Hoyas for well over a year and I gave us a small chance only because he seemed to have a good rapport with Ewing. I doubt he is coming here but there is nothing wrong with folks who want to be optimistic on that regard.
That said outside of Georgetown I am rooting for Gonzaga.
::Bleep:: Michigan and especially ::bleep:: Juwan Howard.

They are really stringing this out. Must be alot of last minute calls going on.

It's going to be unfair when Suggs comes back and teams with Holmgren.

It's going to be unfair when Suggs comes back and teams with Holmgren. They may be the only team that could stop Villanova if that happens.

I think Villanova will win the BE fairly easily but not sure they are a Final Four lock. Who knows how Gillespie returns to form and they do lose JRE. Do the new freshmen effectively replace him? Maybe. But if it’s the same talent as last year, they are probably a #5-10 ranked type of team. Unlike their two title teams, there aren’t an NBA players on this team unless it’s one of the freshmen.

It's going to be unfair when Suggs comes back and teams with Holmgren. If Suggs doesn't declare for the draft then someone at Gonzaga is giving him really bad advise. He is projected as a top 5 pick this draft. No need to come back for another year. He can guarantee his financial security for the rest of his life with the contract he gets coming out this year. I like to see kids play more than a year in a lot of cases, but when the player is this good, he really should take advantage of the opportunity to play professionally and get paid.

Jalen Suggs @jalensuggs2020 · 8m This moment was just the beginning. As I officially turn pro, The Shot is now a 1-of-1 NFT, accompanied by my signed, game-worn shoes from the semis. The auction is live now on @opensea : http
If I’m reading this correct , looks like he let it slip on Twitter before his “announcement”

Fully cognizant of AI's history at GU (driving around in a borrowed Mercedes days before declaring), I'll still venture to opine that this isn't the most Ignatian of looks for the Gonzaga program on the day it signs its most important recruit....but that's just my $.02....

Evan Mobley from USC did a NFT last week to declare his going pro too. I think it's super smart. Why should Topps and Upper Deck and even the NBA be the first to monetize these guys with their "Rookie cards"? Why not take ownership over your own image and branding and sell it yourself? Whether we think the current NFT products out there will succeed long term or not, kind of like crypto as a whole, it's pretty hard to bet against NFTs in some form being a thing in the future. I actually think these unique 1-of-1 pro declaration "rookie cards" that Mobley & Suggs are doing are the best use of the technology I've seen. We've had players autographing memorabilia for decades and having it "authenticated" and monetizing it that way. This is a lot cleaner process to "authenticate" a collectible too and the whole process and monetization is owned by the player. In terms of doing it as you declare going pro, the season is already over. The kid is becoming a professional. Who cares if he monetizes it now? How many grads signing with banking, consulting, or tech firms got signing bonuses? It's not much different. As long as he wasn't taking impermissible benefits while playing this season, I don't see why he can't make money now.

Lol. Good reference (and recognition we all live in glass houses to some extent). I remember happening to be back in DC and just off-campus on Reservoir in April of 96 when Chuck came rolling by in the big old V12 ... my immediate thought was "he gone" (not that I didn't already figure it!).

I just agree to disagree on the timing while he's technically still a student at Gonzaga. And I don't think the analogy with signing bonuses holds either. If a college senior signs with Goldman/McKinsey/Google and decides to skip the degree cause he's got the offer, guess what? The offer goes away cause it's no doubt contingent on (probably very successful - magna or summa - or minimally achieved) graduation. We're not at the NBA stage yet where brilliant sophomores are being poached by BCG or Facebook (even though some of these HBS and other grad school 2+2 programs are inching there!) based on their productivity "potential." I can envision the press conferences now: "I would have gone on to apply for the Rhodes or Marshall but decided to 'take my talents' to Menlo Park instead." *rolls eyes* Bottom line: feels like the horse (Mark Few) is driving the cart in Spokane and not the Jesuits. But I fully confess to some deep green envy at the ascendance of that Jesuit program with the abiding hope that the true North Star Jesuit hoops program rises fast and furiously!!
