You needed Kenner to tell you that Yurt7 could compete as a starting Center in the BIG EAST after he averaged 13 & 7 with 2 BPG as a sophomore in another high level and very comparable ACC?? Also the staff has yet to whiff on a recruit. They have brought in 5 BIG EAST All Freshman Team members. Transfers like Malinowski and Dickerson have had successful moments. So I expect Alexander who was a JUCO All American to contribute in the BIG EAST. Outside of seeing the freshman, I don't think Kenner tells anyone anything. Calhoya is right. We will learn more from the week in the Bahamas then the month in Kenner. To many people let essentially pick-up games dictate what they think of players. There is no upside for the players to play hard in this rec league type setting.. I think Kenner can be useful when you look at efficency. Since ive been following and weve gotten pretty accurate stat data (starting with FLhoya and now with vv), ive seen players score a lot and not have great seasons, but i cant think of an example of a player that scored efficently in Kenner and went on to dissapoint during the regular season. Some great efficent Kenner season performances i remember (hopefully accurately) Roy junior/senior year, Freeman freshman year, derrikson before injuries. DSR. Rodney to an extent. Omer seems to be right up there. Defense is impossible to judge at least for me. Only thing players can pick up from playing in Kenner is bad habits. The only important info/stat that comes out of Kenner is maintaining great Health. Everything else is irrelevant...

The only player in recent memory whose Kenner performance didn’t translate to the season was Kaleb Johnson.

Allen needs structure to be effective. He's not going to blow you away in a Summer league setting, so I wouldn't worry too much about his Kenner league performance. 100% with you on this one... Allen looked the part physically on Sunday but seemed like he was getting lost in the chaos. Yurt7 was cleaning up garbage and having his way with everyone on the court but Allen appeared to be looking for screens that weren't there, cutters who weren't cutting, etc. My thought was that in a real game with real coaching and real strategy he'd be much more effective.

I think what Allen did was great because in a Kenner type situation the guards can easily control the game and shot attempts. He deferred to DSR, Yurt7 and the nerdy looking Buggin' Out looking guy (goggles, yellow shoes and headband) the hyper athletic AJ Wilson from George Mason.

Why don't you guys start a new thread on the Recruiting board called Misses vs Hits and duke it out there. That would be entertaining and also wouldn't completely derail this Kenner thread. Recruiting whiffs thread drift moved here: hoyatalk2.proboards.com/post/834297/thread

A question for the Board. Where do all the GU student athletes competing in Kenner live? Are dorms open? What do they do during the week? Are they taking classes? Who is supporting them? Parents?

Typically they are attending summer school and living in student allotted housing. Outside of their academic responsibilities they are meeting probably five times a week (minus holidays) with the strength & conditioning coach as well I believe four hours a week with the coaching staff. The time with the coaching staff rule is constantly changing. Because the Hoyas have a trip to the Bahamas scheduled in August, the coaching staff will be given more access to the team to hold full practices about two weeks (20 hours a week) before they travel to the Bahamas for their foreign trip & competitions...

Hopefully the roster is finalized before the trip.

Pretty sure that in order to play summer league games, kids have to be enrolled in summer classes... I think the rules, as established by the NCAA, are that if a player is still attending college for the upcoming fall, he can only participate in these summer leagues if he lives within a certain distance from the location of the games or he is enrolled in courses at the university in which the games take place. A follow-up to that last part is that he needs to be enrolled during the summer session (summer school is divided into two separate sessions) that coincides with the same time his games are taking place. This is why for years players, depending on what part of the calendar the KL started, would often not be eligible for the first week of play or they wouldn't be eligible for the last week. But players who claimed residency in the DC area could play every week of the league without interruption. Also I'm assuming the school enrollment criteria is in effect for players from out of the region who happen to go to local schools other than the one hosting the games. So guys from Maryland University, George Mason, GW, Howard, etc who are not DC residents also have to be enrolled in courses at their respective universities to play. But if you are a DC resident who goes to a place like Villanova or UNC and you happen to be in town for the summer there are no restrictions to your participation.

57-41 Clydes over Hoop Magic at halftime. No answer for Yurt7, pretty much scores on every touch. Allen looks good pushing the ball up the floor and distributing. Hoop Magic totally outmanned, Blair and not much else.

Summer of 2018: Yurtseven is no good because he isn't dominating Kenner competition.
Summer of 2019: Kenner competition ain't no good because Yurtseven is dominating it.

I freaking love it. Anyone know who the opponent is and what level he plays at? If Mac puts forth this type of effort consistently on defense, he will take his game to the next level.

I think that opponent is a kid named James Akinjo who plays for Georgetown University, a BE school. Different haircut...
