Didn't really think we had a chance with him given the blue bloods involved. Wish him well, keep on hitting that recruiting trail.

He sounds like he's half asleep; not very excited about the whole thing.

Was he dribbling the two basketballs on his teams logo in a dressing room?

What a crappy way to begin a new week. At least we have a game on Wednesday. Here's the Faustian bargain Griffin is playing: By 2021, Griffin will be joining a program that makes no pretense that it is anything more than the ACC version of the University of Kentucky. Every year they will bring in five players with no interest in anything but consuming an NBA draft pick. But if you don't get selected as a freshman, your career opportunities tail off considerably as you are over-recruited every single year (see Javin DeLaurier and Joey Baker). His head coach will be turning 75 while Griffin is as a freshman and time waits for no man--remember, John Wooden retired at 65, Dean Smith at 66, and both seemed old then. Even Adolph Rupp was done by the age of 70. I never understand the "over-recruiting" theory folks use a lot on the board, shouldn't the object be to get the best players possible for your program? Why feel bad for DeLaurier, he'll be a Duke graduate next May...

I never understand the "over-recruiting" theory folks use a lot on the board, shouldn't the object be to get the best players possible for your program? The goal should be for the best players available that... 1) seek a legitimate interest in the school, 2) are admittable, 3) maintain good grades and good conduct while participating in athletics, and 4) graduate, or are on course to do so if they get an offer they simply cannot refuse.

What does any of this have to do with over recruiting? A program could easily meet all these criteria while still "over recruiting" existing players right?

At that point Etomic your dreams aren't "get a degree and climb the corporate ladder". Instead of being developed to reach ultimate goals K just makes him a "energy" guy and brings in the next stud....the kid is literally no better than when he arrived in Durham 4yrs ago....

Even with his big jump he never made it to 5* status, he ended up #35 on the RSCI list in 2016... www.sports-reference.com/cbb/awards/rsci-recruit-rankings-2016.htmlHard for me to feel sorry for a kid who's going to graduate from a top university...

It's not feeling sorry for him but more hating the system. Kids at 16-18yrs old don't usually have great self evaluation ability. If you don't have people around you that truly understand the game and what you need to do to maximize your abilities, it can be really easy to fall K saying "you can be the next Kyrie, Jabari, Tatum...etc"....especially if someone isn't there to tell you that those kids came to Duke with complete offensive games....
