Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe remains one of the best available forwards this winter and has begun to give greater attention towards his recruitment. He has already visited Seton Hall, a trip that took place in November, and next will be off to Oklahoma State on the weekend of Jan. 26.
The Pokes have continued to be on the look-out for an active and athletic forward that can guard a variety of positions, traits that Moncrieffe possesses. However, OSU is not alone in their prioritization of the Canadian talent. The Pirates remain involved, as does Georgetown, a program that could be the next to host him sometime next month.
Expect for others to work their way in contention for Moncrieffe and attempt to snag one of his remaining two official visits. From there, a signing should be expected in April.

I've no idea if he can come in and make an immediate impact, but I do know there will be more than ample opportunity to earn playing time. Hope that counts for something.

From the stuff I have seen/heard about Moncrieffe, it sounds like his offensive game is still developing and at this point he is mostly an elite athlete that works really hard. I would think he could come in and contribute immediately on the defensive end and help with rebounding and his offense would come through transition opportunities and hard work. Over a few years you hope he develops into a more complete offensive player with more range on his shot. Honestly, this is the type of player the program needs right now, the transfers took away a lot of the wing athleticism that the program had, and needs to compete successfully in the Big East. If it is not this player they get, they certainly need to get someone with a similar skill set.

He was playing in a tournament a few months ago that was being broadcasted and I caught a glimpse of it. He is definitely athletic and didn't seem to take any plays off on both ends of the court. He seemed more like a slasher/driver rather than a shooter but I think that is what we are missing from our current lineup. Pickett is a good shooter but doesn't seem to have th confidence or strength to take the ball to the basket and create his own shot. MAM seems more physical and skillful in that regard. Would not pass on him if he wants to be a part of our program and would be very happy if we got him, Sibley, Harris, and an experienced guard as a transfer.

Sadly my criteria is lower than most everyone else’s on this board. I’ll settle for “likely to come and stay 4 years (unless he blows up and goes to the League)”. Being able to contribute right away seems like a happy/hopeful little fantasy to me.
My god how jaded has this year made me?

Profiles a little like LeBlanc in that he is an athlete and a hustle player first whose skills still need to catch up. Hopefully we are emphasizing that not only would he be in line for a large role, but probably a starting spot right away. Not sure if the competition can as confidently offer him the same. Philosophically it's nice to think that we wouldn't have to do that kind of thing because it can lead to ego and chemistry issues later, but given how depleted we are I think we need to be a little more pragmatic to up our chances with a kid like this. Hopefully we've quietly been recruiting him hard for several months (with the heat really turned up since Williams started giving us colder vibes) and are well-positioned, but it's really hard to say. Last year the Gardner commitment felt like it came out of nowhere and I'm hoping there's something similar again this spring.

Suggesting a freshman might be able to come in and make a contribution right away? For this Georgetown team? Unlike most teams and years. That is setting the bar REALLY low. Who do we have on this team next year? Who will be in the rotation? Centers - 3 Wahab, Timmy and Wilson
Then 5 kids to play 4 postions: Forwards - 2 Pickett, Sibley [F] Guards - 3 Mac, Blair and Harris [F]
Another way to look at it? If a kid can't break into that rotation next year? Well, you get the point.

Under Ewing, there have been several guys who have gotten much more PT than their contributions would normally warrant. However, your point that the former is a low bar to clear given our current roster makeup is spot on.

Interesting that his visit is during the week and not a weekend. Since Seton Hall got his first official visit, this game will probably have extra meaning in his recruitment. It'll be interesting what other two schools get visits.

Hopefully we will be the last visit and can close the deal here. Huge meaning for next season in this recruitment.

Given the current state of the squad, this sure seems like it'd be a great pickup.
Did I see he's waiting for an April decision, though? Oof.

I like his attitude!!
"Moncrieffe is supremely gifted with long physicals and elite athleticism. It’s not really debatable that there is a more athletic Canadian in 2020. He’s beginning to capitalize on his natural gifts and using them to mold a skill set as a three man.
What we really like about M-A is his defensive versatility. As his body continues to pack on muscle mass, he’s going to be even more of an asset defensively."

Fingers crossed tightly here...a win in this recruitment could open big doors for next year. This kid is a player.

The Hoyas really need a big, strong, athletic wing player, like Moncrieffe, to cover some of the guys who have been a tough cover for the Hoyas this year. Guys like Bey at Nova and Marshall at Xavier (and others) are just too tall/long for Jagan to effectively cover and it does not seem that Jamorko is quick enough or strong enough for these types of players. Before the transfers this year, the team had a few options with LeBlanc, Alexander and Gardner and now they need to fill in some athletes that can fill that role. I think Sibley will help next year but they will need at least one more similar player
