NBA scouts were allowed to attend the Nike Top 100 Camp this week for the first time ever. While more work must be completed before any of those 2021 and 2022 prospects can taste the NBA waters, scouts continue to salivate over shot-makers. Look throughout the various levels of the game and shot making has led to the greatest levels of success. The Golden State Warriors won multiple championships on the back of shot-making and we also just saw Villanova capture two national titles within a three year window due to its heavy reliance on the 3-point shot. Due to the value of shot makers, Cam Johnson was able to secure a lottery selection in last week’s draft, just as Jordan Poole and Kyle Guy celebrated their own selection. Twenty years ago, neither of the three may have been drafted at all. This greater emphasis on shot-makers is another reason why we are so high on Casey Morsell. It is also a reason for our ranking of Isaiah Joe and Noah Locke last year, and our belief in Bryce Thompson, Puff Johnson and Quincy Allen. What it comes down to is if you can shoot the ball and have any idea of how to play the game, you’re going to have a place in today’s game. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/three-point-play-puff-johnson-kerry-blackshear-shot-makers

Sitting as the 23rd best prospect in the 2021 class, Allen has had an up-and-down spring but found quality footing this month. A bouncy athlete with long arms and a feathery jumper, Allen has all of the tools of an elite, blue blood prospect. Allen hopes to take his first official visit to Virginia later this year. Clemson, Marquette and NC State are just three others that have prioritized him early on. If Allen can produce for more moments like he displayed this weekend, the local bluebloods will soon be calling. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/evans-takeaways-top-teams-converge-on-philly-live-2

I think he should be a target and someone we go hard after. But #1 target... it is still too early for that methinks. Lots will change in his development, other kids emerging and program needs. But nothing wrong with making him feel like he’s priority numero uno. Maybe he makes a big leap this summer and he has the frame, but I saw him a couple of times this winter and if you had told me he had zero offers, I'd have believed it as much as if you had told me he had a Georgetown offer. If we want to be a top tier program, kids like this are NOT your #1 target. Again, a lot can change in a year, but the '21 class is full of kids who are better than him right now. At the same time, I'm just super confused by these big time offers to kids who didn't do much in Qudus Wahab's league this winter. Allen had decent stats but wasn't a dominant player by any means. Benny Williams, another 2021 kid we offered, never had a game in double figures! If you're a Sophomore getting HM looks and you're playing comp where there's ONE D1 kid, at most, on the other teams, you should show out. The market doesn’t seem to agree. Let’s let Patrick do his job.

Keels would be a very solid get.

Keels would be a very solid get. Yeah, my point is more that Allen isn't a #1 target caliber kid, while Keels is. Allen isn't someone you would ignore or turn away, though.

A bevy of programs including Auburn, Gonzaga, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Wake Forest, UCLA, Virginia and Xavier continue to actively recruit Allen, he told Rivals.com. Allen has yet to take an official visit, but that could soon change. “I want to do one before the season is over with but, I don’t know yet, I might wait for the season to get over with and get a few done,” he said. “For my first official visit, the couple that stick out right now are Miami, Michigan, Louisville and UCLA.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/national-suitors-align-for-top-25-junior-quincy-allen
