Here we go. Another boring day in the sports world, nothing but meaningless summer game to talk about around here. Time for another installment of BuffaloHoya's "Something To Talk About/Poll Of The Day."
Today's topic: for arguments sake, pretend the Hoyas dominate like no other next year and make it to the Final Four. Who would you most like to see them play in (a) the Final Four and (b) the championship game?
I'd personally prefer to beat Maryland in the Final Four for local bragging rights, see Gary Williams whine and complain, shut up Feinstein for once, give me something to fight UMd kids about when I see them out, etc. But I'd also as equally like to beat 'Cuse there for obvious reasons.
As far as the championship goes, I want UNC. This way, we exorcise the demons of Downtown Freddie Brown to Big Game James Worthy, shut up all the ACC-lovers across the land, and knock Roy Williams down a peg or two.
Discuss.

UCONN and SYRACUSE (after they beat Louisville in their semifinale) An ALL BIG EAST Final Four. With NO ACC teams anywhere near it.
If you want, we can knock off UMD, UNC and DUKE in the earlier rounds.

Don't care.
Don't care.
Don't care.
I just want to be there. If we get there and have to play St. Leo's and the Latvian Select Team, so be it.

UCONN and SYRACUSE (after they beat Louisville in their semifinale) An ALL BIG EAST Final Four. With NO ACC teams anywhere near it. Correct-a-mundo. If we're in a Final Four with UNC and Duke, the entire discussion will be around A) how great the ACC is for getting two teams in, and B) how great it would be for Duke and UNC to meet in the finals. We'd be relegated to the back page. On the other hand, if we meet 'Cuse in the finals, as much as I'd hate to see Magoo back there, the discussion will be about how a once-great power is great again and how one of college basketball's best rivalries is white-hot once more. So let's beat, say, Villanova in the semis -- to get rid of some other old demons -- and then take down the team we hate the most. I don't want ESPNU anywhere near the Final Four, for any number of reasons. We can beat them in the Big East tourney finals, with Jeff schooling Rudy in the lane for the winning basket. (And if all this comes true, Jennifer Connely will, in fact, call me one of these days.)

I agree for the all-Big-East Final Four. I would go nuts. It would be so great to shove that in the faces of everyone else down here in ACC land.
Still, if would could beat dook to go to the final four, we would get them back for '89 and beat the team I hate most of all.
However, the downside is that if these events were to actually occur, the joy I would feel would probably cause a huge heart attack that would kill me on the spot. "Elizabeth, darling, I coming to see you!"

I like Sir Saxa's idea:
Nova, UCon and the Ville dominate their respective brackets, recieving seeds of 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The Hoyas, after a slow start against a tough non conference schedule, rebounded in Big East play to finish with a 9-7 BE record, but are knocked out in the second round of the BE tournament by Nova. The committee gives them a 9 seed against UMCP. Jeff shows UMCP and its supporters why they should have recruited him and the Hoyas destroy the Twerps. Gary Williams loses his voice by the next day, as the media ignores him to talk to the victors and he ends up yelling all night trying to get their attention. By the end, he looks as if he had just jumped in a pool.
Next up for the Hoyas is the defending champs, UNC. Their awesome recruiting class was enough for them to win the ACC, due to the beginning of what ACC fans would later call "The Sucking Time" before finally giving up on College BBall b/c of how sick they were of the Big East's dominance. The Hoyas experience shows through, as the Princetown Game Plan works its magic both on defense and offense in a rout.
In the Sweet Sixteen, the Hoyas face everyone's favorite "underdog", Gonzaga. In the matchup of teams with Bulldog mascots, the Hoyas prevail as their full court pressure continually forces turnovers, and the Twin Towers, Roy and Jeff, are too big and tough for the smaller Gonzaga frontcourt.
The Hoyas opponent in the Elite Eight is the 3 seed, Duke. Despite playing only small forwards for the entire season, and with McRoberts filling the shoes of departed human victory cigar Shavlik Randolph, Duke recieved a 3 seed, with all sane people agreeing they should have been at best a 6 and with Dookie V. saying that they were robbed of a 1 seed by the Big East co-champs, Nova and UCon and that the second best team in the ACC should always be a 1 seed, b/c it's the best conference ever and should have gotten more seeds as it was. His coworkers on ESPN finally realize that Dookie V. has lost it, and he's quietly phased out of the coverage and sent off to retirement in Durham, where Coach K. takes care of him. The Hoyas have a slightly tougher game than the last round, but behind the 3pt shooting of Josh Thornton and the all around play of Bowman (who people are starting to talk of as a 1st rounder) and Jeff (who not a single word has been said about in terms of the draft, due to vigilant enforcement of the "death penalty" by crazed Hoyatalkers) and 1989 is avenged.
The Hoyas are the clear underdog in the all Big East Final Four, facing Louisville and then the winner of what pundits have called "The Real Big East Championship" between UCon and the clear #1 team for most of the year, Nova. UCon is unable to handle the healthy Wildcats, falling 85-79 when Marcus Williams gets called for a travel near the end of the game. Pitino gets shown how a real full court press is run, as the Hoyas, in a game reminiscent of their 1984 game against Kentucky, hold Ville scoreless for long stretches at a time, with Ken "The Real Human Victory Cigar" makes the final bucket to seal a 20 point victory.
And so JT3 gets a chance to put to rest the ghost of his father's most painful defeat, as the Hoyas are even bigger underdogs to Nova than when the situation was reversed in 1985. Having already lost three games to Nova this year, the Hoyas go back to the game plan from their '05 victory at Nova, slowing it down and making every possession count. Behind BE POY Allen Ray, Nova matches them basket for basket, but are unable to pull away, never getting up by more than 6. After Sumpter puts back a Ray miss to go up 64-63 (honestly, you all know what the final score has to be), JT3 once again declines to take a timeout, trusting his senior point guard to do the right thing. As Ashanti weaves down the court, Jeff spots up behind the three point arc, waiting. When Sumpter leaves Jeff to double on Ashanti (and b/c he's worried about Roy, who's hanging around the basket, waiting for the pass for the dunk). Cook sees Jeff this time, flips the ball out to him, and as the buzzer sounds, the ball swishes through the net, giving the Hoyas a 65-64 victory. It would have been 66-64, but Jeff's toe is on the line. Afterwards, a jubiliant Bowman makes a joke about if only Jeff's feet were a size 14, they would have completely reversed 1985, but it's lost over the chants of "WE ARE GEORGETOWN".

Anyone else ever worked a summer job in an RHO? Because if you have, you know why I had the time and motivation to write that last post.

Agree with the all-BE Final 4; I'd like to see VU, U-Con, us and SU.
Otherwise, UM and Duke wouyld be nice to beat.

Beat Mr. Magoo University to get to the final four. In the final four UNC betas Michigan State and we beat Kentucky. Then of course GU thrashes UNC by 82 points.
Of course in the tourney, Dook loses to ETSU and UMDCP loses to GW. For added kicks, Central Conn takes down UCONN, causing Central Conn's campus to get burned down to the ground.

I worked in an RHO an eon ago before the widespread availability of the Internet (mid 90's). At least we got free housing, though.
Imagine that job without the Internet! You should be thankful...All we had were things called newspapers, magazines, and books.

I'd like for us to beat an ACC team in the Final 4 preferably Duke but Carolina or Maryland would suffice (Twerps would never make it that far though). That way all of the ACC people (including everyone at ESPN) would have to pay respect to America's premiere basketball conference: the Big East. Then, we'd have to beat Villanova in the finals. They have a strong enough team to get back to the finals this year IMO-- so now we just have to do our part... We'd probably be huge underdogs, so the potential for poetic justice/retribution is there.
Short of that, I'd also love to see an all big east final 4, but it has to be us and 3 other non-football schools, preferably Georgetown, St. Johns, 'Nova, and Providence.

Gosh. A day never goes by on this message board without the mention of the ACC, Duke, UNC, or Maryland The ACC obsession continues. I could care less about beating the ACC. They are beneath us. I'd rather have 3 teams from the Big East in the final four like 85. Play Villanova in the Final Four game and UCONN in the championship game , to avenge the 1996 Big East tournament Final lost, and see the look of disgust on the face of that terd, Jim Calhoun.

What...you don't think the NBE is good enough to get four teams into the Final Four?!?!?!?! So what conference do you think is getting the 4th team in? Having a fling with another conference on the side? Is that it? Starting to feel a little love toward the Pac-10 or Big Ten or Big 12? Maybe it's the SEC? Hmmmmm? Honestly, _way, I thought you were better than that.

1)Beat Duke in the Final 8 in the place formerly known as the Meadowlands. (revenge the '89 lost in the same building).
2)Beat Nova in the Final Four (revenge for the '85 defeat)
3)Beat Kentucky in the championship game (revenge for all the Kentucky fans cheering on Nova in Lexington in 1985---wasn't merely a matter of people rooting for the underdogs, Kentucky fans have long memories and they rooted against Gtown because the Hoyas beat their beloved Kentucky team in the '84 semifinals).
Then after that happens, for the following season, SI does its college preview for the '06-'07 season with a cover of JTIII, PE2 and Ronald Reagam Jr with the title "There They Go Again."
