Good weekend to suck the air out of the Dome and make Buddy Bohime beat you.

We’ll need the same level of shooting against the zone. Let’s hope some muscle memory was developed tonight.

This Cuse team looks like they will make a deep run in the tournament. They have alot of length at every position.
Brisset 6-8 Hughes 6-6 Chukuwu 7-2 Battle 6-6 Howard 6-5
Dolezaj 6-10 Sidbie 6-10
We're going to have to be hot from 3 because they could have a field day rebounding against us especially since we've played really poorly against the zone this year.

I'm very curious to see how they react to being significant underdogs. I will be surprised to see anything other than a down to the wire game and I like our chances with Akinjo in a situation like that.

This will be a tough one, but I do expect GU to play "Up" to the competition. Hoping for an exciting and competitive game.

Gonna be live for this one. Fortunately I am too old to be worth trash talk or beer throw from the young Syracuse whippersnappers.

Sounds like Pickett will be back in the starting lineup for Saturday.

Sounds like Pickett will be back in the starting lineup for Saturday. Although apparently Jamorko will be down in Nawlins while the rest are up in Hades.

Whats funny is that the Hoyas have become a sneaky competent shooting team. We're not throwing them in from the parking lot like Creighton but there are signs of improvement. Akinjo and Maclung look much more comfortable than their 5/38 from three start to the season (and their careers) and thats made a huge difference that teams have to respect them.
Step two will be not taking that shot and making the extra pass for easier catch and shoot attempts (looking at you Pickett, Blair, Malinowski). Would go a long way Saturday especially as we look to beat the zone down the floor and get some early open looks.

Tough environment to play in for the newbies. Crowd and depth perception are factors. Need a consistent team effort to pull a win.

I saw something last night that I have been waiting to see for a while. Pickett is finally trying to leverage his height on the blocks against his opponent. It if wasn’t his best game as a Hoyas, it might have been the most complete one he has had.

I am looking forward to seeing who on the team will be ready to attack the zone. Last year, this was Jagan’s best game of the year with the floating runner.
I would think with Mac and Akinjo dribbling penetration ability that if we can get the ball moving there will be seams for them to attack. Who is going to own the soft spot at the free throw line? Jesse? Playing hi/lo with Mourning? Will Leblanc have a reliable enough jumper for the free throw line to be dangerous there?
It will be fun to watch how we attack and what success that we have.

Based on the threads I've read, most people on this board agree that Mourning's playing time should decrease over the course of the season - but I think we should expect and prepare for a lot of Trey on Saturday against this zone. We'll need his rebounding and he's shown he can effectively hit that short corner jumper.

Ewing does not seem to use the traditional "enter the ball to a man at the center of the foul line" approach to attacking a 2-3 zone. He more often puts Jesse at one side of the foul line, usually looking for a quick jump shot. But generally, he seems to look more to ball movement resulting in post entry passes and some dribble penetration. This has worked well for us at times. We certainly were OK offensively against Syracuse last season.

When Trey and Jessie are in the game I would expect to see a lot of those two low in the short corner and flashing to the FT line when the ball is on the opposite wing. Upon the catch it all comes down to decision making. Couple things can happen...quick turnaround jumper off the catch, a catch and skip to the opposite wing (this could be very effective when Jamorko, Jahvon, and Greg are the wings), or a quick catch and bounce or lob to the other big who needs to seal off the wing on his side on the block. The last piece really works when you’ve shown you can hit that jumper from the line as it will draw out Sidibe and Chukwu to at least the middle of the paint. Jessie has shown already this year that he’s capable of hitting that quick turnaround jumper.
When the two bigs aren’t in the game I’d like to see Greg at the FT line in a more traditional style zone offense. I like his decision making and his odds of hitting that shot consistently. I’d really prefer to beat the zone with the pass rather than seeing one of the young guards force penetration late in the shot clock. That has me worried with their length forcing deflections or blocks and run outs on the other end that get the crowd in a frenzy.
