That the hoyas are BACK!!!!!! I haven't seen us play with that intensity in quite some time!! Here are a few observation:
1. I really like that in a hostile environment facing intense pressure we did not wilt. We got punched and we recovered, and adapted.
2. We finally attack on offense, a lot of drive and kick, dribble penetration, and not just doing a passive weave at the top of the key and settling for a bad shot. PE is really recruiting the right type of players, athletic fun to watch, aggressive. I love it.
3. Towards the end of the game maybe with the 3 minute mark Illinois appeared to take the mojo back, took a lead but we came up with a few big plays, re took the lead and never looked back. I feel like un JT3(especially in his last few years) we would have wilted and the fan base would be says" Well it was a hard fought game, its early and a good loss." Forget that we were mentally tough and got the win!!!!
4. I rarely say this anymore but the announcers were awesome. The African American guy(sorry I forgot his name) sounded like a young Walt Frasier, he was terrific. He was engaged, objective, excited... Great announcers..
Above all else, Im excited again! I will not lie, the last 2-3 years of JT3 I almost wanted to lose, I wanted him OUT and there was no way other than disastrous seasons to make that objective happen. I love with PE is doing here. He's bringing hoya hoops back slowly but surely. I feel like its the 90's again!!!

Share in your excitement richfame, there will be some agony this year, but looks like we will have plenty of ecstasy this season, and even more down the road!

The brand of basketball we are playing will energize our TEAM, our fanbase, and recruits. Everything about this win suggests that the program is on its way back. The style of play on offense and defense, the extended rotation and the bench contribution, the many highlight plays, the WIN, all send a clear message that it's a fun place to play. Fingers crossed for continued growth, but it's so encouraging in the limited sample we've seen!

It's Steve Bardo - and you will be more impressed with him once you hear he was part of the fantastic Illini team that went to the Final Four in 1989 - along with Kendall Gill, Marcus Liberty, Kenny Battle and Nick Anderson. Remember that day when they beat Cuse in the Regional Final vividly - mostly because I watched the end of that game in the Meadowlands before tip-off of the East Regional Final. Will not explicitly mention how that turned out.

Steven Bardo was a great college player. That Illinois team was amazing because they were all 6-4 to 6-8 and could guard multiple positions. He was really the point guard and Kendall Gill was the 2.

Will not explicitly mention how that turned out. I must admit I first started watching CBB in 1987-88 or 1988-89. What ever year Zo was a frosh. I was in 5th grade. I must admit I don’t remember SB as a player. I believe I watched mostly big east and UNLV games only ha ha. The game was a great listen though.

Steven Bardo is one of my favorite color guys on TV. Unfortunately he spent a few years at ESPN where he would get the crappy games that we not attractive to the average viewer. I believe I thought I saw somewhere that he even worked at Illinois doing games years ago. I thought he was very neutral especially given the fact that he was an Illinois grad and player. Can you imagine a Syracuse grad being this way? I didn't think so.

He seemed to have basic knowledge of the players/teams, and I actually had no idea he was an Illinois alumnus until I read it here, which shows that he didn't allow any homerism affect his commentary all that much. He was clearly getting a ton of fun out of watching the game, and showed a lot of enthusiasm. He's definitely better than Dickey Simpkins, that's for sure.

Im not a big fan of Dickey(see what I did there). He seems like a C level announcer, not much energy, not a great voice... I had no Idea SB was an Illnois grad until this post. Major respect to him for being a professional and good at his job. Now if we can get Justine Ward as our sideline reporter that would be the jackpot...
