Interesting. Nice to play another local team. However, the Mids have an awful program. RPIs of 304, 315 and 284 over the past three years is pretty bad. At least we;ll get extra credit for a "road" win this year.
These types of games kill the RPI though. Just destroy it. We need to play AU or someone like that instead.

Cam - We can stay at Doubelhoya's place and Edited off his wife when she's 7 months pregnant...

No, we shouldn't play GW. No, we shouldn't play American. We don't need GW. GW needs us. Navy is fine. Howard is fine. That is about as local as we should get. We are building a National Program, not a Maryland/District of Columbia Program. This is a good cupcake game, plus it is a national institute. Good move.

I'd rather play GW than Howard. I'd rather play GW than Farfield. I'd rather play GW than The Citadel. I'd rather play GW than Norfolk State. Playing Navy in no way builds a national program. I'd rather take the RPI boost by playing GW... which is a national institute as well.

Cam is paying for the beers, and he gets to clean up afterwards -- if so, then it is a done deal.
Any divorce lawyers out there? If my lovely pregnant wife wakes up that Saturday morning to Fan of the Game passed out in a puddle of his own "sick" in the middle of the kitchen, I am going to need one.

Playing a team with a 304 RPI destroys us in terms of making the NCAAs. Even a win is a loss in the long run.
Not sure what's wrong with playing GW. I mean I know they would like to get a marquee win vs. us, but it sure helps in terms of RPI.

Have to run the numbers to figure it out for sure, but I am confident that a road win against a 300-ranked opponent is better than a home win against a 200-ranked opponent (and maybe even better than a home win against a 150-ranked opponent, but that might be sticking my neck out too far).

Well the really good news is that it turns into a home game against a low RPI opponent the following year. Maybe by then the RPI will be fixed a bit, but unless David Robinson has eligibility left the Middies will not be a great opponent. Sure seems like a lot of road games in the non-conference so far. This may be an easier one, but it is hard to imagine Pops making this type of schedule.

This is a Great move with a capital G.
Navy is the kind of gamewhich makes good sense in the non-conference. Many of us have rightly complained about how past non-conference schedules did not prepare the team for road games, inspired no interest among alumni, and resulted with 16,000 empty seats in MCI. Navy will be a better team next year and it's a better opener than, say, Marymount!
A local opponent, an academic peer, a competitive venue, and a chance to rebuild some local bridges...don't underestimate the message it sends to some schools that kept telling their fans Georgetown won't play them home and home.
A Friday in Annapolis, a Saturday afternoon at the still-unnamed Multi-Sport Facility to watch the Hoyas vs. Colgate for the football season finale. A win-win (I hope!)

Does anybody like the sounds of a HB road trip of mammoth proportions? I'd like nothing more than to repossess Navy's gym for a night. Who wouldn't take a bus ride up for a Friday game? We'll have to look into this...

This is a huge scheduling move, however we slice it. While Navy is not the best opponent in the local area, we must also recognize that DC hoops politics makes it difficult to schedule UMD and GWU, while others, like VCU et al., may not be able to come up with good dates for us. I still would like to see us do a Wisconsin/Mass Ave. Series with AU, but Navy is no better or worse than that.
