It's not just a joke - he had a shot to take a free one at a corrupt Democratic Senator and Cornyn passes it up because he wants to work a bill with Menendez.

Up to 27 Dem Senators now.
As I predicted, NBC News reporting an FBI counterintelligence investigation now opened (pats self on the back).
EDIT: Durbin, #2 Senate Dem calls for resignation. Number 28.
Hey "Republicans", get a clue yet?

Now 30 Senate Dems now call for resignation. All good and long overdue. Where were they 8 years ago?

Now up to 18 Democratic Senators calling for Menendez to resign. Yesterday, only 3, starting with Fetterman. The tie to the Egyptian government makes this case more than just "normal" political corruption. It is a national security matter. www.lawfaremedia.org/article/what-the-menendez-indictment-says-about-u.s.-egypt-relationsEDIT: In the time I took to post the above it has grown to 19 as Senator Peters of Michigan just came out for resignation. Bizarrely, some "Republicans" (Hawley) are using Menendez to attack the DOJ. Truly pathetic how craven the MAGA GOP is. Running Man Hawley remains a traitor, so nothing about this surprises me.

Both a jury and the courts are likely to take a different and much dimmer view of selling sensitive info to foreign actors: I think a criminal violation as an unregistered agent of a foreign principal under FARA could have been brought but DOJ has had mixed success in these cases. I also wonder if Menendez and wife have been the subject of a formal counterinteligence investigation (not undertaken to necessarily discover criminal activity). Well, I guess I called this one now that DOJ has filed a superseding indictment under conspiracy to violate FARA. What a scumbag. NEW YORK — Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) was charged in a superseding federal indictment on Thursday with conspiracy by a public official to act as a foreign agent, intensifying the legal peril facing the veteran lawmaker as he continues to resist calls to resign. www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/10/12/senator-menendez-fara-new-indictment-egypt/

They need to find a way to get rid of him because he clearly doesn’t have the integrity to do the right thing on his own.

Pretty good night, last night: Hoyas win! Democrats win in Virginia rebuking Youngkin. No political future for the fake vest guy. Beshear vanquishes MAGA GOPer sychophant Cameron and abortion bites the self-proclaimed "pro-life" cult on its behind in Ohio. RICHMOND — Virginia voters resoundingly rejected Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s costly efforts to take control of the General Assembly in Tuesday’s elections, according to unofficial results — flipping the House of Delegates to Democratic control and preserving a blue majority in the state Senate that can block his conservative agenda and prevent Republicans from tightening limits on access to abortion. Democrats’ sweeping victories amounted to a sharp setback for Youngkin as he seeks to raise his national profile as a potential last-minute presidential contender and seemed to fit with a national trend that saw Democrats rally around the issue of protecting abortion rights. In Ohio, voters decisively approved a measure to build abortion access protections into the state constitution, and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) won reelection after hammering his Republican opponent for supporting the state’s near-total ban on abortions. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/11/07/youngkin-agenda-general-assembly-virginia-election/

Joe Biden has had a very bad few days. His party just had a banner year. In Tuesday night’s off-year elections, the incumbent Democratic governor in Kentucky — a state President Joe Biden lost by 26 points — handily won reelection. Democrats not only rebuffed Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s bid for total control of the state legislature by keeping the state Senate — they flipped the state House, too. And the party held a state Supreme Court seat in the nation’s largest Electoral College battleground of Pennsylvania. www.politico.com/news/2023/11/08/election-day-2023-results-takeaways-00126035

It's almost as though it's a bad idea to attempt to shove the minority's opinion down the throat of the majority in the form of legislation. Pandering to a criminal probably doesn't help, either.

Blame Obama? And is the Grifter going to reveal his replacement plan along with his infrastructure plan? Some 20 million people have signed up for health insurance this year through the Affordable Care Act marketplaces, a record-breaking figure. President Joe Biden will likely proclaim those results regularly on the campaign trail for months to come as former President Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner, vows to dismantle the Obama-era program. www.nbcnews.com/health/health-care/obamacare-sign-ups-surge-record-20-million-rcna133517Donald Trump couldn’t repeal Obamacare in 2017, largely because it had become too popular. It’s even more popular now. Roughly three-in-five Americans like the 2010 health care law, even more than when Trump and Republicans in Congress came to the brink of wiping it out. And some of the Affordable Care Act’s better-known provisions — like protections for preexisting health conditions — engender even greater support. www.politico.com/news/2023/12/02/trump-obamacare-polling-support-00129721

So surprising. Just like when wealthy people "hate" socialism. Right up until they can socialize their banking losses while privatizing their profits. Turns out, self interest is a pretty powerful motivator. I, for one, am shocked.

Katie Porter should know better than this in light of what Trump has been doing for 4 years. I have lost almost all respect for her. Poor choice of words, sure, but Schiff kneecapped her by spending campaign money to promote Garvey as a serious candidate. He knew it was easier to beat Garvey than Porter in a one-on-one race so he took her out to protect his own prospects. www.politico.com/news/2024/03/07/schiff-garvey-california-climate-00145543

But it required a much more measured response than immediately throwing out the word “rigged”. This gives the election denialists even more ammunition to “both sides” the election denialism issue. Republicans are STILL talking about Stacey Abrams and Hillary Clinton for their modest election protests all these years later. Also, she didn’t seem to put up much of a fight when Dems were working to upend moderate Republicans in their primaries by boosting more extreme candidates.

I'm a big fan of Katie, but have to agree with this. While the TV advertisements against her were outrageous (and combined with Schiff's promotion of Garvey, really killed her chances), she should have absolutely known better than to use language like that.
