Jalen Gaffney 6'2" 2019 Combo Guard
Westown, New Jersey
Team Rio AAU (Under Armour Association Circuit)
Might as well kick this off...
Really love the fluidity of this young man's game. Really beginning to blow up...

Looks like he plays with Aidan Harris on Team Rio. Wouldn't that be a nice package deal??

I find it interesting that his tweet for the Georgetown offer has a picture of Ewing on it. It shows you the narrative was wrong that was going around after Ewing's hire, that high school players today don't know who he is and won't be impressed. Ewing's legendary basketball status seems to have easily crossed generations and is a huge factor in his recruiting.
Don't see a picture of Buzz on Gaffney's tweet about the VT offer, now do you...

I think a large part of the "cross-over" effect is the immediate connection Ewing will make with parents, most of whom will be in their 40s and remember Pat vividly from his playing days at Georgetown and New York.

Parents are a factor certainly but I seriously doubt that Gaffney's parents tweeted that pic of Ewing out for him. What teenager would let his parents near his social media? I think it's clear that amongst the pool of recruits that Georgetown is after, Ewing's history and reputation is well known.

I think it's clear that amongst the pool of recruits that Georgetown is after, Ewing's history and reputation is well known. I did not mean to imply that his parents tweeted out a picture from his social media account. A vital piece of recruiting, however, is for parents of target recruits to have a positive perception of the coach and program -- they often have a major influence in steering their children toward and away from certain schools. And, certainly, a 40-year old parent can provide additional color to a child about how great a player Patrick was "back in the day," thus bridging the generation gap.

Might just be that he is too smart to tweet a picture of Buzz, lose all his friends and probably break his phone

Well, Gene Smith is apparently ageless. If he graduated in 1984, that makes Smith ~56 years old. Looks like he could still lace'em up and giv'em hell on defense!
