Kid is very smart. Will be an excellent student. I think we can take both him and Wahab and still maybe get another Big like Oscar or Stewart.

Don't think we get Stewart No - probably not. But that's a recruiting class I could live with. If you don't get Stewart - or some other big talent who will definitely start right away - then you need a couple of other very good 4-star kids and only one "flier" (presumably either Weatherspoon OR Wilson). Say... Quinones/Collum, Wahab, Kai Jones, Wilson Saying "you could live with" a class that includes Stewart is a little comical to me. If the 2019 is just Stewart, I would consider it a win. He is a superstar. I don't think the Wilson offer is contingent, and I am very happy to see him with us in his top 3. He would be a great start to the class. Stewart is clearly one and done, but Wilson would be a guy who would be around for years and develop.

We currently have a roster with only 2 players (Govan, Yurt) who've been an even AVERAGE starter, and one is definitely gone after this year. Sure, there's lots of potential and hope - but we need more talent. Replacing Kaleb, Trey, and Greg on the roster this year gives us an opportunity to do that. If Akinjo turns out to be great early on, Mac or Blair can score efficiently at the 2, Pickett develops into an all-BE talent, LeBlanc is the defensive whirlwind we all hope he can be... sure, maybe a 1-year Stewart by himself moves the needle on a special season. It goes w/o saying that I'd want Stewart, but it doesn't do us much good on the court if there's not enough talent around him to win. Sometimes you get Ben Simmons or Markelle Fultz or Henry Ellenson or Dennis Smith Jr and you still suck.

To start the train you got to crank it up. Meaning you have to start somewhere before you get the momentum of a locomotive. Hard to go from 0 to 90 all at once.

I don’t see taking two developmental C’s in the same class or three bigs in a class of 3 or 4 recruits as viable. We already have Yurt, Leblanc, Walker and Carter for ‘19-20. Sure guys like Stewart, Oscar T and Igiehon are game changers and you find room if they want to commit. But I’d rather see a class of one guard (who can shoot!), two versatile wings, and one big. If we go two bigs, than one of those two better be a great instant impact kind of guy.

Don't think we get Stewart Duke probably leads but don’t sleep on Hoyas. If he really wanted to go to Duke he would have verballed by now.

Fan of Wilson and hope he commits on the visit. Also understand why some are a bit lukewarm, as his stats (and hence his ranking) aren't eye-popping. But his potential is tremendous. Right now he looks a bit like a taller/longer Mikael Hopkins with a little bit better defensive instincts. But if he can develop his offensive game under Patrick, he could be a star. He fits the profile of what you want in a modern center--a great rim protector, but with good enough feet to switch onto smaller players and not be a mismatch. I am a subscriber to the so-called "LARMS" philosophy of talent acquisition, which is to say that you want guys with Length, Athleticism, Rim protection, Mobility and Spacing. Malcolm checks each of the first 4 boxes in abundance. If he can round out his offensive game a bit and become a threat to make an outside shot, he'll play in the NBA.
Hearing him talk in an interview or following him a bit on twitter, you can see that he is a soft-spoken, humble guy. I have no doubt that Coach sees a bit of himself at 17 when he looks at Malcolm. If Patrick can find a way to bring the killer instinct out of him, the sky is the limit. All the raw materials are there, so if he has the desire and the guidance from Patrick, he could really blossom.
I do think he is probably a bit redundant with Quddus, and so that's probably an either/or situation. With Quddus visiting recently, it may be a "first one to commit" situation. In an ideal world you'd pair a guy like Malcolm with a big who is maybe a little more ready on Day 1 like a Stewart, or an Igiehon, or even a Tshiebwe, but that's easier said than done. Even in the worst case he'd be understudying Yurtseven in his first year, which would give him a little time to acclimate to college ball. In the end I think we'll probably end up with 5 scholarships in the 2019 class, and so bringing in 2 bigs will be no issue. It'll just be a matter of which we can make inroads with. If we have a good year, I'm sure we'll be active in spring as well.

I agree with RB. Which is why Wilson should have committed earlier IMO. It's not as if he is a 5 star recruit who can wait it out for the best possible suitors. If Quddus commits to Gtown, Ewing should call it a day and concentrate on the remaining more polished 2019 big men on his wish list.

If Patrick can find a way to bring the killer instinct out of him, the sky is the limit. Easier said than done, but Pat did turn Marcus and Jessie in the direction of almost "killer" mode in one season, so there's precedent. What Jessie does this year will speak volumes for Pat and our basketball program.

Just ran across this article from the day he cut his list. I don't think it has been posted previously. Looks like the video and quotes are the only new info. Hometown big man’s top three includes in-state school - The South Carolina Herald - by Lou Bezjak
"The Ridge View center announced his top three schools, which are Clemson, Georgetown and Rice. Wilson doesn’t have a favorite or timetable for his announcement. “All three schools are small schools that present good opportunities after college which is what I like,” Wilson said. “Rice, Georgetown and Clemson are all great in academics and have their upsides in athletics. These seem like environments I’d like.”" www.heraldonline.com/sports/college/acc/article216535820.html

Kid is quick off his feet, has good foot work and is a natural rim protector. With some muscle, coaching and hard work...he has some nice upside.

www.thestate.com/sports/college/acc/clemson-university/article216670445.htmlNext up for Wilson will be his official visits. He has been to Georgetown and Clemson before unofficially. He will use these visits to garner more information prior to his decision. He plans to sign in November.
“I definitely want to figure out what my role is going to be on all three teams,” Wilson said. “I want to know what their plans for me is for the next four years whether it’s me coming in and playing the first year or not playing. Just really seeing what they are thinking for me.”
Wilson added that because he needs to add more weight and strength to his frame, he would not be opposed to redshirting his freshman season if that’s what the staff suggests is best for himI'm sure Brownell is trying to sell him on this idea which is a good one to be honest...

Interesting. If he comes to Gtown hopefully this doesn't take us out of the running for Wahab. Wilson won't be ready to play in yr 1.

Suppose to visit next weekend, wouldn't be surprised if he committed at that point.

Interesting. If he comes to Gtown hopefully this doesn't take us out of the running for Wahab. Wilson won't be ready to play in yr 1. Yep. I don't see Wilson making much of a contribution in year 1. Almost certainly would not be able to fill all of the backup minutes at the 5 behind Yurt. We'd need someone else. I don't think a Wilson commitment would affect Wahab. He'd have 10+ minutes available to him as a FR, and be the projected starter going into his SO year. I'm all for getting both of them (or Wilson + some other ready-to-play C) this year. Bigs always take time to develop and odds seem to be high that we'll only get Yurt for a year on the court. Wilson's a big ball of potential. If he's open to red-shirting or spending a few years maturing and learning -- which he seems to be -- that'd put us, and him, in a good situation.
