If the rumors about Felton are true, no thanks. I don’t care how talented he is.

Man I thought it was a mistake when I originally replied. A kid like Devonish or Verbeek may need to redshirt to get stronger or just get better without wasting a year....also I would expect Felton or Frink to visit before committing. Even if it is done secretly....

Kiyon Boyd coming in as a non qualifier? He may not be playing organized basketball for a while if he ever does again. He made a really bad choice recently.

Ok internet detectives...PE's exact quote is..."one guy who's going to be able to sit out"...as always, we overreact or assume everything under the sun, and often it turns out to be very different...but here's an idea...how about somebody who recently visited and is highly/exceptionally skilled for his size who they feel is worth the 1 year wait for growth/strength and "who is going to be able to sit out" as opposed to "HAS to sit out for a year" (e.g.a transfer)...could it be Verbeek?

If Verbeek committed, why wouldn't he announce it? Why keep it secret? Nothing on his Twitter (he retweeted something this month), his IG is private, and I can't find a facebook for him. It also assumes that Verbeek is planning on redshirting. Meanwhile, we've got an article from a week ago with Ewing making a strong push for Felton : www.goupstate.com/sports/20180320/felton-transfer-process--to-pick-up-steam-soon

Sad to read this, hope everything works out for the young man.. ...and exactly why you stay away from Felton. I know the circumstances are wildly different but Ewing does not have the luxury of bringing in kids that we need to be a significant part of the rotation and have to worry what their doing off the court. Simply not what we need. I will take the slightly less talented kid that is a straight arrow 100 out of 100 times.

I totally understand the speculation given what Coach said, but I still think there's some possibility that it was a misspeak rather than an allusion to a mystery transfer. What he said was:
"...3 new guys coming in that will be able to play right away, one guy that's coming in that's going to be able to sit out, and then we have one more scholarship that we're still trying to go out there and get."
What he might have meant was:
"...3 new guys coming in that will be able to play right away, one guy that's coming in who was able to sit out, and then we have one more scholarship that we're still trying to go out there and get."
In the second scenario, he's talking about McClung, LeBlanc, and Carter + Malinowski who sat out last year and whose scholarship status is still sort of ambiguous. In that scenario, the 12 players on scholarship for next year (leaving him 1 open one to recruit with right now) would be:
1. Blair 2. Mosley 3. McClung 4. Johnson 5. Pickett 6. Walker 7. LeBlanc 8. Carter 9. Derrickson 10. Govan 11. Mourning 12. Malinowski
This scenario is clearly not as sexy as the mystery transfer hypothesis, and I'm not sure it's any more likely either. But I do think it's a possibility worth considering.
I also think it's possible that if we do have a silent verbal from a transfer, it may be someone who has not even announced that they're transferring yet (which may be why it's silent for now). That player is likely trying to finish out the semester at his current school and may not want to deal with the publicity of it for a few more weeks until he's about done with classes. I know there have been times in the past when there was pretty strong buzz around campus that a particular player was about to transfer, but it didn't go public for weeks (Vernon Macklin comes to mind). There may be somebody out there who hasn't publicly announced yet but who made a call to Patrick and staff to see if they had any interest. I think it would make some sense if it was a center, because a) a transfer big who has to sit out a year might be ok, since the center position isn't an immediate need for us but will be a major need after next season and b) a big man seems like the most likely player to quietly call up Patrick Ewing to see if he'd be interested. Would also jive with us continuing to flirt with point guards (from Akinjo on down to Dervish) since we do have an immediate need at that position for next season.

He said 4 guys coming in during the other interview with doc Walker. Hard to take what he said as anything but having added a 4th game the way he worded/phrased it

I agree with you that a transfer big would make the most sense given the current roster. My only challenge to the first part of your post is what was mentioned earlier in the thread that in January Ewing said there were two open scholarships and now he is saying there is one (and Malinowski was already with the team at that point).

He said 4 guys coming in during the other interview with doc Walker. Hard to take what he said as anything but having added a 4th game the way he worded/phrased it Possible, but he may be considering Malinowski as a guy "coming in" since he's joining the active roster next year. Again I don't know that it's likely, but there's a non-zero chance that in Coach's mind Greg is tantamount to new player since he'll be able to suit up for the first time. I also think the Verbeek angle is interesting. Certainly seems like a guy who might make sense for a redshirt, given that he's got some potential but wouldn't figure to get much playing time next year with a number of more advanced front court players ahead of him. If it was a new recruit who was voluntarily taking a redshirt year, it would make sense that Patrick phrased it as he's "going to be able to sit out", rather than "who has to sit out", which is how it might be phrased if we were getting a transfer. Combined with the fact that the kid was on campus last week, it could make sense. Why Verbeek would be keeping it quiet at this point is harder to guess. But a scenario like this, with Verbeek or a similar type of developmental big, seems plausible.

I love it that people are continuing to speculate. As I said, it’s Watara Mountari. You are disappointed that your 53 posts over 13 years hasn’t provided instant credibility? Maybe you are right....but right now you are some guy in the internet who might as well be Akinjo’s Mom’s hairdresser’s friend’s cousin’s neighbor. And we are supposed to believe you because you know are right? Possibly...he probably needs time to mature so it would seem to fit the fact pattern. I look forward to some shred of corroboration.
