I just want to get to Loyola-Chicago level of talent. Kenny Izzo's second choice (seriously)

My current guess at a starting lineup for next season:
James Akinjo Mac McClung Kaleb Johnson Jamorko Pickett Jessie Govan
(Assuming Derrickson is gone, Govan stays, and Yurtseven sits a year.)
Blair, Malinowski, and Mosely backing up the three guard spots. LeBlanc, Walker, Carter, and Mourning backing up the two forward/center spots.

I am not sure that Ewing would start both freshman guards, but it's possible. I truly hope by the end of the season LeBlanc has broken through and gets significant minutes. Barring a major jump from Kaleb, I think there's a good possibility that LeBlanc is the better of the two. I think Pickett and Govan are pretty much locks. I think the other three are much more fluid. We don't know yet how much Ewing values seniority in choosing initial starters either. If he wants to stick with a more seniority based approach, then Kaleb starting seems likely too.

If he wants to stick with a more seniority based approach, then Kaleb starting seems likely too. I actually had Kaleb starting more because of his defense, as opposed to because of his seniority. Plus, since Kaleb started every game last season, I'm assuming Ewing values something that he brings to the lineup. I agree that I think LeBlanc should get significant minutes, even early in the season. I'm just not sure if he'll break through as a starter. I feel like Akinjo is going to start since that would have been the recruiting pitch to him. And I don't see Ewing recruiting over McClung after all of his comments about him since he signed. Though I do feel like there will be a heavy rotation at guard so that they're not playing excessive minutes their first season.

Having seen Malinowski play dozens of games at his previous stop, my main comments are:
Needs to create a little better and shoot more. Showed some timidity (which I expect Pat will work out of him).
Good at moving without the ball and on pick and roll jumpers. Solid-to-better shooter.
Needs to take care of the ball a bit more. Gets a bit reckless and can miss opportunities to pass to an open man when he isn't as focused.
Let me also add that William & Mary has never played defense under Shaver. The Tribe basically plays half of the game of basketball because Shaver basically refuses to acknowledge that it's part of the game. Deadly shooters, but traffic cones could stop more shots. He's got nowhere to go but up in that arena.

My guess:
G Akinjo G Pickett F Johnson F LeBlanc C Govan
Bench Guards (in order of playing time): Mosely, Malinowski, McClung Bench Bigs (in order of playing time): Mourning, Walker, Carter
If Yurtseven is eligible, I'd have him taking LeBlanc's position in the starting lineup.

PG: Akinjo (20), McClung (10), Mosely (10) SG: Pickett (20), Malinowski (10) Blair (10) SF: Johnson (20), Pickett (10), Blair (10) PF: Leblanc (20), Mourning (10), Walker (10), Carter in blowouts C: Govan (30), Mourning (10)
Yurtseven changes this a ton if immediately eligible, and I doubt it breaks down so cleanly into ten minute pieces like this haha.

Akinjo, Pickett, amd Govan start in any lineup.
The rest of the guys are so different that match-ups will determine the rotation. I would guess that's what Pat wants; to have maximum flexibility.

Akinjo, Blair, Pickett, Leblanc, Govan starting and the core. That gives us 3 incredible scorers, a PG to get them the ball (and score when given), and a utility knife in LeBlanc.
Mac, Moseley, Kaleb, Walker, Mourning second 5. Malinowski is such an unknown to me that I don't know where to put him. I'd play him at the 3 but Pickett is clearly ahead and Kaleb brings more intangibles.
Govan will be seeing well over 30 MPG. Mac and Moseley will be able to sub in for either guard position. Kaleb will sub in (or start) for defensive reasons or if Pickett/Leblanc are off. If Kaleb or Walker improve, they could taking the starting spot at the 4 but I think Leblanc takes it as he's a better all around prospect.
All this changes if Yurt7 is eligible. If so, then good luck to Pat in managing minutes. I'd like to see a RS for Carter in this case and would be interested in what happens with Mourning.
*knock on wood* Fortunately we look to have some depth next year. We should be able to absorb any injuries barring Govan.

TWO DEEP SQUADS! We should still play a few bunny teams to get our feet under us but after that we should be cleaning the floor all the way to the tournament.

Just hope Patrick pumps up the intensity and pace on defense, we don't have to worry about players wearing out next season.

Blair made a lot of improvement through the season, but didn't fully turn the corner. He showed a lot of glimpses of being a solid starter. Sadly, for many those were lost behind some really rough stretches. Like Dickerson, Blair was at his best when playing in control and not pushing the pace.

Who is the help defense with Govan this year? This past year Derrickson covered for Govan a lot, which often put him out of position on his cover on the outside. Answering that question fills things in for spot beside Akinjo and Pickett.
I'm thinking LeBlank is the PF / big beside Govan who is his defensive cover (unless Govan makes big strides on fixing his lack of defense capability). Mourning doesn't have the size and is more of a wing than a big, but is a solid rebounder. Walker could fit with some of what he showed at the end of last year. Walker has the athleticism to be an athletic big near the basket, but he was often looking really lost on defense and that is the last think needed beside Govan (man I hope Govan makes huge strides on defense).
So: Akinjo, Pickett, Leblanc (penciled), and Govan with Mac, Mourning, Blair, and Johnson as possible 5th starters. If Yurtseven is available that fills the big void next to Govan on defense, but how they play on offense could be a question mark.
With Yurtseven: Akinjo, Pickett, Leblanc, Yurt7, and Govan.

Not sure I disagree, but seeing Mourning with twice the minutes of McClung and Malinowski with just as many minutes seems wierd given all of our own Mclung hype
