I'm generally pro-Mac but for me it's more about shot selection process than results.
I loved his aggressiveness driving to the hoop, but some of the other shots were questionable (no no no... yes! variety). The first 3 Mac hits in the game is off a dribble in transition with a defender right on him. It's great that it went in, but if that misses then we're all pretty frustrated with a bad forced shot.
The shot he got fouled on for 3 was a bit of a bailout, off the dribble pull up from top of key, fortunate to get 3 free throws.
In first half, him and Akinjo ran a pick n roll (which was a fun concept) and Mac jacked up an off balance 3 while he was almost falling over w plenty of time on the clock.
The answer might be he simply can consistently hit difficult / contested shots and we're going to live or die with those. And when we're low on the shot clock they are absolutely fair game. But they feel low percentage, they just happen to go in yesterday. Would love to see him keep the aggressiveness and be a distributor as well to collapse the defense and create for others.
I agree he was more engaged on defense yesterday and it was great to see that effort, he needs to maintain that engagement regardless whether his offensive game is working or not.

Random but why is Mac covering his back tattoo this year?
Regardless, the kid knows how to put the ball through the hoop!

Correction : Mac was 2 for 3 on his 3 pointers
There are a lot of guys with no tattoos and Mac probably wants to keep his image "clean" for the pros. He'll need a "hook" to maximize his value for the draft. Clean cut, polite, all American Boy from little Gate City. Tattoos don't fit that image.

Doesn’t matter one bit but I’m just curious lol. As far as the draft goes, I hope Mac goes first round after a great senior year. Can y’all imagine how good we could be in year 4 if Mackinjo stick around?

I think it’s just sports tape. You could see part of the tattoo poking out.

People can criticize Mac all they want, but when the game starts, he hits the start button on the microwave. Against Penn State, on the 1st defensive possession he leaped over Yurt for the defensive rebound. Unfortunately, his pocket was picked in transition and that began the derailment. Last night, he had the early steal on the cross court pass. I don’t think all of his decisions are great ones, but I certainly admire his willingness to lead the team with his initiative from the very first moment. The self confidence that this requires when a good portion of the fan base is going to bash you for forcing things is a tremendous strength. I’m glad this kid is a Hoya and appreciate what he contributes to the team.

What was so great about Mac's performance yesterday was that he had a very good first half only to come out in the second half and make very questionable decisions for about a 3 minute span. Ewing pulled him right after the announcer said McClung can do that and the Hoyas will lose, then the Hoyas continued comeback and expanded the lead and when Mac came back in he played what was some of the best basketball he has played in the Hoyas uniform. Taking controlled drives/shots and finding open teammates while maintaining his aggressive nature. The kid can score an easy 18 or a very hard 18 on any given night. When he goes for an easy 18, we can be a very, very good team but when he goes for a hard 18 we are very average.

Mac is a guy who is always going to be ultra aggressive on the offensive end, and some poor decisions/shots are just part of that package. Every good team needs a guy who thinks he can score every time he touches the ball and has the confidence to take and make tough shots. His decision making is getting better and Coach Ewing clearly is in his ear about making the right play, but you need to live with some of those questionable shots/decisions if you want the good that comes with Mac. The next big step for him is just being consistent from game to game. His last two games have been great, hopefully he can add a third to the list tonight.

Some people are going to hate that approach, and of course his game still needs a lot of refinement and improvement in certain areas, but I absolutely love the mentality he plays with and will take the lumps you have to live with from time to time as a result. the thing I was most impressed with last night was his focus defensively in the second half - he really gave 100% effort on that end, stuck with his man through picks much better than he has at times previously, and he did an outstanding job of closing out on shooters and not buying fakes. Give me that kind of intensity on D from Mac every night, and we're going to start seeing him become a pretty special player.

I completely disagree with that as he has shown that he can be aggressive and have good shot selection at the same time. This is a not a team that has 1-2 good scoring options so there is no need for bad shots where he goes to the basket only looking to score. For 28 of his 31 minutes, he was aggressive and played very well. For those 3 minutes, he was hurting the team and that doesn't have to be part of the package. He could have shot 4 for 14 yesterday and my thoughts wouldn't have changed because he took good controlled shots while not completely ignoring his open teammates. To me, that's why the box score doesn't matter as much as how you play the game. Wild uncontrollable drives often end up with turnover or a missed shot with a very small chance of offensive rebound when you have 2 to 3 teammates open on the perimeter. Mac is better than that and he seemed to get the message when he returned to the game.

Despite his "slow" start this year, Mac is averaging 34.8 % on his 3's - nearly 35 %. Much better than the beginning of last year. He averaged 27 % for all games last year and 32% later in the season for the Conference ( Big East).

Just read the lyrics to "Middle Child." My goodness, I am the other generation.
I'll leave it to others to opine as to whether or not the quoting of this song is a positive sign from McClung. I have no idea.
Now, get off of my lawn....
