Mac is going to get minutes one way or another, benching him at the start or not...Ewing has made this clear. The best overall lineup, and that which will best hide macs defensive inabilities is going to be akinjo, mac, pickett LeBlanc and Yurtseven. Should be rolling with it from the start and not doing so was a mistake against PSU.
Throw in some Gardner at the 2, and a mix of Mosley/Alexander at the 2/3 as well. Yurtseven/Wahab Speak for themselves and some minutes for pickett at the 4 to help spell LeBlanc. Don’t get why there’s so many bizarre lineups out there and lineups w nearly all starters on the bench. Players need to get into a cohesive rhythm.

Nice game Mac! Stay aggressive, hopefully more often than not in the flow of the offense.

Exactly...Mac (and all) play better and shoot better when they make the extra pass, consistently move without the ball, play "in the flow" and don't force the issue too impatiently...very nice game from Mac tonight...and the team started to look better in the second half...Keep it up, guys!

The wishy washy nature of some fans is too much. Mac has 2 bad games in a row and folks are ready to stash him on the bench and leave him there for the rest of the season. He played well tonight and I guess now everything is okay again. It's basketball folks, believe it or not, players might have back to back bad games or more sometimes. Happens to the best players in the world in every sport so I'm not sure why Mac or any other Georgetown player is held to some magical standard that doesn't allow for consecutive bad games. If some folks had their way, this team would feature about 20 different starting lineups throughout the season since any starter in a mini slump would be instantly benched. We got crushed by Penn State so now were the worst team in the Big East. If by some miracle we beat Duke, those same folks would be punching our ticket to the Final Four I suppose. The season is a marathon, not a sprint.
The rotation complaints are also bizarre... everyone wants it tightened (myself included) but anytime someone suggests removing someone from the rotation (Blair, Wahab, etc) folks are like "No, he needs to play." You can't have it both ways people. You can't shorten a rotation that's currently 11 deep and still let all 11 guys play! There has to be casualties. I am in agreement with pretty much everyone else that the Leblanc benching is beyond peculiar. A team that struggles with defense decides to bench its best defender and second best rebounder? Bizarre. I initially thought the benching was further punishment for whatever got him suspended. At this point though, it seems more likely that he was informed he wasn't starting the first game and reacted negatively which prompted the suspension. I can only assume that perhaps his effort level was low in practice leading up to the first game, as Ewing seems willing to overlook poor play but not willing to overlook poor effort.
In any event, I'd love to see Leblanc back in the starting lineup ASAP. I'd also like to see Blair, Wahab, and Gardner removed from the rotation and used only in garbage time situations. Maybe give Wahab a few minutes against teams with big dominant centers that might be too much for Leblanc to handle down low as the backup. I do think both Gardner and Wahab will be very good players down the road. They just both look too raw offensively at the moment. I don't think it's a shock that the team played much better in the second half today since none of the above three played in the half as far as I can recall. Starters: James, Mac, Pickett, Josh, Yurt. Bench: Allen, Mosely, Alexander... and a very small diet of Wahab. Even top teams like Duke often only play 7 or 8 guys at most in a game unless its a blowout, and they have McDonald's All-American's sitting on the bench getting DNP coaches decisions. I think we can afford to sit a guy like Blair or Gardner.
One thing I did like from today was Ewing letting Mac play some PG with Akinjo playing off the ball. I think doing this from time to time helps both players. Mac I feel like goes long stretches sometimes without an offensive touch, so when he finally touches the ball he's overly anxious and forces a bad shot. Akinjo on the other hand has a habit of calling his own number early in the shot clock. Playing Mac some at PG and James at the 2 allows Mac to be involved in the offense without feeling like he needs to shoot, and James playing off the ball allows him to get a shot within the offense instead of just bringing it down and jacking up a quick shot without running a play.

Totally agree.

Agree 1000% - I'm not saying he should play major minutes but occasionally.

I do think Mac was used well in the game and liked the switching between him and Akinjo in the point guard role.
However I think the key to Mac's good play today was the simple fact that he made some early shots that got his confidence up. He said in the post game press conference that he had been in a slump and had worked hard in practice to get himself out of it. His first couple of makes, including one of the team's rare 3s, really seemed to spark him.
I love his ultra-confident free throw form right now too.

It looks like Mac is initiating his 3 point shot from over his head now. To my eye, it looks like a change. Anyone else notice the same?

Mac was engaged on defense last night- he always is on offense, clearly. That was the most impressive part of his game last night: his apparent pride in his defense, shown by his facial expressions after a couple of the foul calls against him. The kid is learning....

Exactly. I'd rather see him with 4 effort fouls on defense every game if that's what it's going to take for him to become a plus defender over time. Just need the same effort on defense in the games where he is off on the other side of the ball and he'll be fine.
