Mac knows he needs to refine his 3-pt shot and is taking the correct steps to get there. Just stay healthy and he'll do great things!

Mac also knows that if he can develop into a 40+% 3pt shooter he essentially becomes unguardable and would probably be one of the top scorers in the college game. About 50 players in the men's game shot 40% or better last season and about 40 did it in the women's game.

About 50 players in the men's game shot 40% or better last season and about 40 did it in the women's game. And those NCAA numbers are limited by players with high numbers of attempts. If you limit like KenPom (Minimum 40% minutes played and 2 shots per game to qualify), there are over 100 guys over 40%. McClung doesn't even need to be high volume shooter to be incredibly effective, though obviously if he can shoot 40% at a high rate that would be great.

fansided.com/2018/06/21/drew-hanlen-nba-trainer-bamba-tatum-embiid/Here’s a look into Drew Hanlen. A three point specialist in college and great shooting coach. Love that Mac is working with him: Perhaps the greatest boost to Hanlen’s pedigree, though, was the nearly 50 percent he shot from beyond the arc as a senior at Belmont — the guard finished the 2012 season ranked second in Division I. “That has always been my MO,” Hanlen says. “I’ve spent much of my life tweaking my shot — I know the things that are consistent with all great shooters — and Brad was the first guinea pig. It’s why he and I have such similar shooting forms.” “The Celtics highly value the 3-point shot, so Brad and Danny wanted Jayson to work on knocking down more 3s off the dribble and side stepping.” And as someone who used to devour game tape of the NBA’s greatest shooters, he also refined the lottery pick’s shooting mechanics, widening Tatum’s shooting base while lowering his shooting pocket and tweaking the rhythm to more fully connect his legs to his motion. To be fair, Tatum’s work ethic largely shaped his transformation into arguably the NBA’s most exciting rookie, but Hanlen’s guidance helped fuel that rise. He was the guy that everyone thought was gonna upset us in Ottos freshman year. Turned out that Ian Clark was more dangerous.

I know we give McClung credit, but I still feel like he gets overlooked by the fanbase. There aren't a lot of freshman who looked as impressive as Mac did in games last year. If he ever turns into a 40% 3 pt shooter then he's a surefire pro. The kid has everything inside the paint, pull-up, step-back, floater, can finish with either hand at/around the rim. Literally, the only thing holding him back from being an elite guard at the college level is defense and shot selection. I think he's an All BE performer this year and could push 1st team his junior year.

Hanlen wouldn’t waste his time.

I never get tired of watching Mac highlight videos. 😎👍🏻 Neither do I! But going back a bit, Mac's 3 % shooting in 15 games in the BE was about 32% - improved from the beginning of the season but the next leap for him, I think will be around 36% - maybe by his 3rd year it will get up to 40% That's a hard number to attain.

He did make some nice dimes last year, but too often was he a black hole that drove into several defenders looking for a contested finish. I still want him to look for his, but if he is able to drive and find an open man 3-4 out of every 10 drives instead of 1 every 10 drives, I think that would be his biggest success.

Hope Mac is spending much more time working on his shot and his defense than on his dunking.

Hope Mac is spending much more time working on his shot and his defense than on his dunking. He's probably working more on them but something tells me those wouldn't draw anywhere near the attention of viewers that would make them worth recording...or anywhere near the amount of snark from fans looking for something to criticize.

Hope Mac is spending much more time working on his shot and his defense than on his dunking. If you read the thread, he spent the beginning of the off season working with NBA shot guru Drew Hanlen which tells me Macs parents put up big money because dude is probably not cheap, works with Jayson Tatum, Joel Embid and Mo Bamba. all now have 3 point shots. I saw one of his instagram points, Hanlen said after one dunk video, remember you are a shooter now. Also Hanlen posted a photo on his Instagram of Mac and said to watch for him this year.
